[00:00:00] Emily: Welcome to get offset. My name is Emily and I hope you’re having a great day today. If not, I hope this makes it a little bit better. This is guitar talk talk, which will never not make me laugh. I say it because it just sounds so stupid, but it’s name I’ve settled on. It was like the seventh episode. So I guess, uh, this is, you know, where we are in our life.
[00:00:28] Together we are here. Uh, yeah. So I’m just going to go through hashtag guitars house for a while. See what’s up, uh, react to some videos and take you on this journey with me. I’m going to wash Tik TOK basically. So you don’t have to, hopefully there aren’t too many repeats, et cetera. Let’s get to it. All right.
[00:00:48] Let’s see what these cuties are up to.
[00:01:26] Ah, I know that song, but I don’t know that song. You know what I mean? That was nice. Oh, look how happy they are. And that’s why you play guitar to be happy, not to gatekeep girl boss, nor Gaslight Nick’s recently asked me
[00:01:45] TikTok Person: why I got an electric guitar instead of acoustic. And basically it’s just because I wanted to learn the classics.
[00:01:51] So, and. Um,
[00:02:00] Emily: um, the caption said starts playing a one direction song. Um, and you know, I’m just going to say, I think we should stop, uh, starting kids on acoustic guitar. It is less fun to play. It’s harder to play. Makes your fingers hurt a lot more. Um, and I just think it’s a lot more fun to start people on electric guitar.
[00:02:29] I just don’t know. I literally don’t know why we always start kids on acoustic. Other than that, we’ve always done it. I think it’s probably a little bit easier to find a guitar that is well suited to children. Um, has, you know, a decent construction quality that’s in a budget space for kids, uh, that’s electric versus acoustic.
[00:02:55] It also, they can just play it, play with headphones and you will be able to hear it less as a parent. So, but I like that, that was.
[00:03:06] TikTok Person: Listen, I can’t give any more information, but I fear I may have grow balls a bit too close to the sun. Listen, I can’t give any more information.
[00:03:18] Emily: Nice at a girl. When you started teaching yourself guitar eight months ago and made silly little videos on Tik TOK to track your progress.
[00:03:26] And now you’re getting sent in new guitars and partnering with fender I’m here for it. You. Kicked ass. You did the thing you did the thing some people want to do. Haters are going to hate the red Shoals is going to give you a big thumbs up test. The first comment that I see there, um, that’s awesome. I follow another woman who, um, is like Jace, just tracking her progress, starting with guitar.
[00:03:53] And she’s getting, she gets so many rude comments. People say things like I have never seen someone pick up guitar after like the age of. 16 and be any good at it. You’re wasting your time. You know, my, I feel number a picture of my great, great aunt. She picked up the Oregon at 50. She started playing the Oregon with like the foot pedals and everything at 50 she’s still got a good, like 40, 45 years of playing.
[00:04:22] And then was she ever like a virtuoso or anything? No. Belinda had a great time playing Oregon as far as I know. And if that’s your goal of playing guitar or any instrument is to like have fun, which I think should be your first goal should be like fun. Self-expression um, some sort of fulfillment.
[00:04:43] Because it’s sure shit, shouldn’t be making money, uh, nor fame nor anything like that. Um, I say, go for it. I say, you know, you’re never too old to learn anything. And if your mindset at any point is that you’re too old to learn a new thing. You might as well be dead because you’re basically there already.
[00:05:05] That’s just pitiful. That’s sad. I hate that people feel that way. I really do. It’s sad, but she didn’t feel that way. Be more like her be more like add, I
[00:05:17] TikTok Person: am not salon.
[00:05:26] She looked so much like salon. But I can see why she would either say that
[00:06:18] um,
[00:06:25] Emily: Sorry. I just watch that episode of Seinfeld. God, did you see the guitar change colors depending on where it was in the light? Ooh, look, it’s purple and it’s blue. There’s blue there it’s purple. There that’s a good guitar. John Mayer kicks asset Tik TOK. I’m just going to say it. I’m not like the world’s biggest John Mayer fan.
[00:06:47] Like I just never really went that way, but. He is so good at TechTalk. Um, yeah, he’s very good at take talk. Let me just make sure I was just making sure everything was recording next.
[00:07:09] TikTok Person: Let’s play one more song with Donner’s triple Looper pedal.
[00:07:23] It’s a triple.
[00:07:55] Emily: Someone said something about like budget pedals. I do Doner over a lot of brands. I do Donner over a lot of budget brands. I look at that, look, I just less, what I love about Tik TOK, man, when someone plays guitar and something, and then you see, I look up like, they’re so pleased with themselves cause they did.
[00:08:16] They probably didn’t think like, I don’t know if she did this on her first take or, you know, 25th cake, but. That look, I just love seeing people play guitar and be happy that they did the thing that they were trying to do. Cause I feel that way. I like, I like her stuff. This artwork
[00:08:35] TikTok Person: is for my music people.
[00:08:36] I used to do a project with my high school students, where they had to create a work of art that also functioned as a musical instrument. And I actually stopped doing the project because I realized as an art teacher that I did not want to teach kids that aren’t needed to have a actual function. It can just be hard, but I kept this one because first of all, I love the student.
[00:08:53] And it’s just absolutely beautiful, really advanced for high school kids. This was completely handmade from scratch out of a piece of wood. Chris, hand-carved this entire instrument by themselves. I’m unclear on what kind of wood they use, but definitely use tongue oil to seal. And Chris spent a lot of time trying to tune this and make it actually functional.
[00:09:13] It’s somewhere between I think a liar and a guitar. The construction is just immaculate. I mean, incredible 16 years old. Let’s see,
[00:09:24] reminds me of Beatles song. Chris also made me a couple of things. One, I had a common skate and a BOLO tie.
[00:09:30] Emily: This artwork is for my girl. What’d you have to confiscate. I want. Oh,
[00:09:41] I’m sure I’m looking at the comments to see. I don’t see a follow up about what she had to confiscate.
[00:09:48] TikTok Person: Mm dang.
[00:09:58] Damn. Ah,
[00:10:02] Emily: bummer. A BOLO tie though, man, I love a good BOLO tie.
[00:10:35] That person’s figures are always very good, very loud. And that one was a little out of sync. Damn. I wish I could. I kind of wish I could play like that, but also, like I told, like, I’ll save that for the people who like, can, is that a weird thing to say? Like, I just has a lot of physicality to it and I’m just such a physically lazy person.
[00:11:25] TikTok Person: Setting it up to the races.
[00:11:30] I don’t know any of those songs. Truly.
[00:11:35] Emily: Pete turtle sounds like guitar. Fat turtle, turtle, talk, talk, fuck guitars. This is turtle. Talk talk. Now what’s your favorite turtle? I was little, I had a sandbox. It was like a turtle shape and I was devastated when we moved and left. Uh, at the old house on the door,
[00:12:25] TikTok Person: oh, are you
[00:12:25] Emily: supposed to do what he does that a lot?
[00:12:30] TikTok Person: Not even 15 minutes later, I’m still walking down the street.
[00:12:43] you gotta watch your money, not your life. And if you try to make a move, I won’t see you keep the cash and Morgan.
[00:13:08] the
[00:13:08] Emily: thing is like, if you’re, if you’re a guitar, she know you always got to keep something in your back pocket for when some asshole comes up to you, as you can tell and says, play this, I got, it’s gotta be impressive.
[00:13:23] Because the Sonic here, like one of mine is of course I did practice. So.
[00:13:48] TikTok Person: Um,
[00:13:55] Emily: that’s one of them, you know, you gotta keep something back there and if somebody wants something, they can sing along too. That’s that’s harder. That’s harder because we probably did not listen to the same things. Uh, so you might have to do
[00:14:28] I actually forget how the rest of that.
[00:14:30] TikTok Person: Whoops.
[00:14:37] Emily: Oh, but I was stupid. This one’s kinda dumb, but, um, what my band found out is what we decided was w once we were playing a show, I think we came in at like 11 or midnight come really late. And we’re like, how do we get people back in after they’d gone out to smoke a cigarette or whatever, or get some fresh air.
[00:14:56] And we decided to open our set with.
[00:15:25] TikTok Person: Because most
[00:15:26] Emily: people recognize that as a song from P and P and I prayed and prayed and it works every single time. They’re like we didn’t and people were like,
[00:15:37] you know, I, I played in demos and every single time, like a lot of demos and people, every time I’m like paint, paint, love, Polaris. It’s so great. It’s just, you know, You’re planning something that you like other people grew up with and it’s still a fucking great song, man. Ah, now I’ve got to go watch. Gosh, Pete and Pete now.
[00:15:58] TikTok Person: Shit who the fuck. Use the combo as a chip back flipper. I’m not angry. I just want to know who the fuck use the combo as a chip
[00:16:12] Emily: capo. See, I can’t even use my cable that way.
[00:16:18] TikTok Person: Hmm,
[00:16:19] Emily: I guess I probably could just had to tighten up a lot.
[00:16:23] TikTok Person: Shove a shove.
[00:16:29] Emily: That’s the quality content I come to Tik TOK for. I’m glad there haven’t been any fake tutorials this week. Watch last week’s for shitty fake tutorials.
[00:16:41] TikTok Person: All right. So about being here, represses, everything, they feel never lets it come to the surface.
[00:17:41] Emily: That was really familiar. That’s really repetitive. Firstly, and I mean, repetition is really key and pop music. Um, it’s, it’s like one of the reasons, oh, shut up and dance with me was such a huge head that was really familiar. The melody. And it’s gonna bother me the rest of the night.
[00:18:10] TikTok Person: Uh,
[00:18:11] Emily: dammit. I play it for my husband. He’d be like, oh yeah, that sounds like this. Because I had to stop playing things. I wrote for my husband because he would pull out like the smallest similarities, like, oh yeah. Those three notes are in these 15 songs. I feel like you got a fucking stop unless it’s like going to get me sued.
[00:18:29] You need to stop pointing out the similarities in other songs.
[00:18:34] TikTok Person: Mom.
[00:18:38] Why? Because why not? Yeah. Why
[00:18:41] Emily: not? Oh, she’s doing
[00:18:43] TikTok Person: it.
[00:18:50] No, she’s all. They’re
[00:18:51] Emily: perfect. She’s all easier to do your
[00:18:54] TikTok Person: nails. Oh, these better glow in the dark has advertised or I want my money back.
[00:19:05] Emily: I that is not, doesn’t have a lot to do with guitars. Other than I know a lot of guitars have painted nails. The dude’s even, I really want to do a video talking about nail care hair for a guitarist, because I know I’ve talked about this before, but it bothers me how there are guys out there. Um, I’m sorry to call you out guys, but women, I’m sorry, women they’ll do this because it’s not how we were socialized.
[00:19:26] Guys will grow their nails out to play guitar and wold maintain them. Like, if you’re going to grow your nails out, that’s awesome. But it’s just like growing out your hair, you have to maintain it. You can’t grow your hair and wash it as seldom as you wash your hair. If you like have really short hair, you got to wash it more often.
[00:19:45] If you’re going to grow your nails out, you have to shape them. You’ll take some care of them. You have to do it. So,
[00:19:56] and rant, that was really hard.
[00:20:00] TikTok Person: The signal does pass through
[00:20:01] Emily: the clips show you works. Andrew asked me about this on the
[00:20:04] TikTok Person: podcast, but the rock does not conduct the signal. Uh, something metal works best for this
[00:20:21] you could try some other fun objects to see how well they pass this.
[00:20:31] The more, you know?
[00:20:35] Emily: Oops. Yeah. So yeah, they’re not, I don’t think they’re all fake, but, uh,
[00:20:42] TikTok Person: yes.
[00:20:47] Emily: So Jordan says he uses this thing to test his circuits.
[00:20:59] two other clips that connect to power positive and negative.
[00:21:03] TikTok Person: Interesting.
[00:21:19] Emily: It’s like those old bass guitars that are just like an old propane tank or whatever.
[00:21:36] TikTok Person: I just really like watching the.
[00:21:52] What are you doing down here? You’ve been down here for hours. I just rewired my whole pedal work. It’s fine. It takes
[00:21:58] Emily: awhile. Now
[00:21:59] TikTok Person: it looks nice. I want to try it out and see if it works. Can we watch a movie, I guess? Um, yeah, no, I’m excited. Cause I cut me on chords solder done. So we’ll start off with the old walrus drive on the asphalt on.
[00:22:24] Oh,
[00:22:25] Emily: no buddy.
[00:22:30] Oh, no, it didn’t work. We’ve all been there.
[00:22:34] TikTok Person: Oh no.
[00:22:42] Emily: And then he had to look at every single one.
[00:22:46] TikTok Person: Oh, my God.
[00:22:50] That’s hard.
[00:23:14] John Mayer.
[00:23:20] Emily: It’s really fun. That’s pretty funny. I, there was one, one of these I did, there were like two videos in a row that were wonderful. And I just want to remind people there’s songs other than wonder wall.
[00:23:33] TikTok Person: That’s not the only song
[00:23:46] Emily: I know you could still find guitars with those.
[00:24:01] TikTok Person: What’s not working. Oh
[00:24:12] Emily: no, it’s really fun to do. If you have one of those is to leave the tuner function on and just play chords and that will automatically try to reach. While you’re playing the chord
[00:24:24] TikTok Person: makes for weird
[00:24:25] Emily: sounds. Very weird. Sounds
[00:24:27] TikTok Person: solid.
[00:24:43] Emily: I don’t get. You know what I find? I liked it. I enjoyed that. I enjoyed every moment of that. I want you to know not a second of that was poorly spent.
[00:25:11] TikTok Person: I should’ve
[00:25:12] Emily: ended it on the one before that. Oh, no, thanks. I hated that.
[00:26:11] I like that.
[00:26:19] TikTok Person: I can.
[00:26:23] So in my song, the age of worry, I’m purposely not riding it to give it a strange flavor and also prove that I’m not worried about even writing. That’s okay. Close your ass and clone. You said, uh, to defend a sense, well, do everything wrong. Don’t be scared to walk alone. Don’t be scared to like there’s no time that you must be home.
[00:26:53] So sleep where time is far. For a couple of inside rhymes and the song, but there’s one part that resolves and it feels great because it’s the only line that rhymes
[00:27:10] Scott knows it’s been done. You and somehow you got through. So when it resolves in that one’s place, it feels great because it didn’t the whole time.
[00:27:30] Emily: I that’s really nice. Honestly, I’ve got nothing else to say to that lot of great poetry. It doesn’t rhyme. We feel the need to do lots of rhymes and songs and, um, proof that I guess you don’t really need to do that all the time.
[00:27:57] And then a little occiput. Okay. What is it? Oh my God.
[00:28:21] TikTok Person: Uh, Game
[00:28:25] Emily: changer. Audio, eat your heart out. Holy
[00:28:28] TikTok Person: shit.
[00:28:31] Emily: Nice, dude. Well, that was this week’s episode of guitar. Talk, talk, check us out on Patriot patrion.com/get offset. We have a podcast every week at launches on Tuesdays. There’s usually a live, uh, premier, the video version of the podcast on Monday evenings at 8:00 PM.
[00:28:50] Eastern 5:00 PM. Pacific. If I can remember it. They give a, I have a tic-tac at, uh, get offset also Instagram and I, yeah, please subscribe for more content like this. I have to do geared in those other things like that. Um, yeah, but thanks for watching things for understanding until next time. My name is Emily goodbye.
