Can a $180 plugin suite sound like a boutique amp? The Benson Chimera Plugin from Mixwave

and I’m here to tell you that if people

are telling you you’re not real enough

they just can’t handle the truth which

is that you’re plenty real that’s my

opinion

I’m here today uh with something you’ve

definitely seen and heard me use if

you’ve watched this demo channel for any

amount of time really at all it is the

Benson Chimera plug-in from mix wave and

this is

easily one of the best amp plug-ins if

not the best I’ve ever used I pretty

much use it exclusively in videos that

don’t really require a real amp I use it

over the stream and iridium even

um

though I still love that petal it’s

great on a board

this is great at the studio so let’s go

ahead and get into it shall We alright

so when you open up the Chimera plug-in

on whatever your dog choice is or

running it however you like to run it

I’m using Studio One this is what it

looks like so I’m going to move the

volume back to the middle here

it’s close enough treble base in the

middle bright switch down

this is the order of everything

so I am going to turn the volume up

[Music]

and we’ll toggle on the brights

[Music]

normally use the brights I’m going to

keep that down but you can shape the

treble and base however you’d like I’m

going to leave those largely alone

there’s nothing you can do about it

looking at the calves there’s a lot that

we can do here

we can do some panning we can

check we can use

different cabinets

so let’s go with the this one

and of course we can

switch these however we’d like

gear 57 put that over there

this does down mix everything to mano

just the way I’m kind of restricted in

how I can record audio from the computer

into a video sorry about that but this

can do stereo inputs and outputs

blah blah blah so let’s look at the tall

bird Reverb now

you can right click it double click it

or just hit the toggle

this is the default setting everything

at noon

um

so the first thing I usually do is I

move the Reverb to after the amp

[Music]

yeah so that’s where I like it I turned

the dwell down a little bit the wet down

the dried up

nice amount of Reverb I kind of mess

with the dwell more than anything

I forgot to mention I am playing the

American Vintage 2 Jazz Master sent to

me by Sweetwater

um the plug-in itself was sent to me by

Benson back in the summer

um you can also get that on Sweetwater

all right and let’s start looking at

some of the effects let’s start with the

Boost one cool thing about these effects

within the plug-in is you can you can

obviously move them around

um but you can control the mix of these

I don’t really know why you’d want a mix

of anything other than full blast for

this boost but you might so I remember

demoing this the first time and I kind

of determined that like six six and a

half was a nice sweet spot so I’m going

to turn this off

turn down that output a little bit

and just like a real amp you might find

yourself compensating

obviously that was the most appropriate

thing to play with those settings

let’s look at the preamp this is this

has been since first ever pedal and now

it’s in

a plug-in form again this has the mix on

it so you can change that however you’d

like

it’s starting to act like a real amp

we can turn these off and turn the fuzz

on

this might be where you want like a dry

a dry blend

at this point I think you can tell I’m

just um

playing around because honestly this

Suite of plugins for costing less than

two hundred dollars uh phenomenal

um I just think it’s something that

everyone should have and I don’t I don’t

often say that about gear sometimes I’m

like yeah it’s for you or it’s not for

you that’s fine

I don’t really know who this isn’t for

um it has made recording at home so much

easier both demos and things that will

be released it’s made my my my films

demos my YouTube demos a lot a lot

easier and it just sounds so good and

it’s so much fun to play through and I’m

like practicing I just put it on

um the JBL 104s and

it’s

sounds like playing through uh
