Death by Audio + LEVITATION Speed Tripper Phasing Delay Demo

The Speed Tripper is the second collaboration between @deathbyaudio and @LEVITATION and it doesn’t disappoint. It’s a psychadelic delay with an optical phaser that you can feed into the feedback path of the delay circuit for warped, melting echo tones that can add undulating sweetness or absolute fury.

It’s limited to 666 units and can be found exclusively through LEVITATION: https://bit.ly/SPEEDTRIPPER

[00:00:00] Emily: welcome to get offset. My name is Emily and I’m here with the speed tripper, the newest and second collaboration between death by audio and levitate. I believe that as a festival, um, this is limited to 666 units in true DBA fashion. I think that is funny. Um, it’s a delay pedal mixed with an optical phaser.

[00:01:05] I’m going to start by getting some stuff back down to zero the phase. Controls are on the right there. And the delay controls are on the left. You go from as low as 30 seconds, 30 milliseconds of delay up to 1100 milliseconds. So that’s quite quite the range. The feedback also has quite the range. It goes from a essentially one kind of muted.

[00:01:37] To a lot of oscillation. I have no reverb in my tone, master amp here.

[00:01:50] So, uh, any modulation you’ll be getting will be from the puddle because there’s quite a lot. And I just want you to hear the puddle actually, maybe I’ll add in the scourge of reverb. It’s more than the school.

[00:02:08] Here we go. I think that’s a good amount, but that’s the clean signal I was playing just a little song I wrote for a Patrion supporter there

[00:02:25] So there you have a bit of a clean signal. Let’s throw this odd. Just kind of get started with the delay controls. Uh, 30 milliseconds is enough to kind of sound weird, but not really enough to sound, you know, like.

[00:02:44] It’s not even like a slap back delay, slap back delays kind of live between like 70 milliseconds and 150. So thankfully the, the milliseconds are actually written on there, including the special spot for four 20. So thank you, DVA.

[00:03:06] But you can hear, um, with the feedback all the way down. That is one delay, indeed. And

[00:03:25] get up to one 50 to hear a little bit better.

[00:03:35] It sounds a little bit muted. If we could turn it up to get a little bit more life in it,

[00:03:44] it’s still is now that’s a little bit more slot backy. Mm

[00:03:54] You’re not buying this. Oh God,

[00:04:02] or you’re doing it wrong. Let’s turn off that delay to four 20.

[00:04:16] a little bit like the edge. There gets a delay feedback. That’s just the repeats. It’s pretty standard. Uh, this is just like any delay. Um, longer delay times will degrade the quality of the repeats include. And then we’ll introduce more of those kinds of analog ask artifacts.

[00:04:57] Now let’s get to the fun stuff. Let’s start by introducing the intensity. Uh, the intensity controls the amount of delay being sent through the phase network. And that’s an optical phaser, as I mentioned, and that’s controlled. The speed of the thing is there is controlled. By this tripper speed knob, uh, there that, um, and the amount of the delay being sent through is controlled by the intensity, the intensity interacts with, with the repeats.

[00:05:25] Uh, and we’ll see that a lot later. Um, but if you, as you, as we start to, I also like how, I just love it when they, I love to design on their pedals. It has that kind of sea Shelly, um, shape. It’s it’s like. Yeah. So let’s just start introducing some of that intensity and we’ll start to hear some sort of like, um, undulation there.

[00:05:54] It adds a lot of auditory interests to that delay sound. You can hear it. It sounds like the ocean to me.

[00:06:28] what I’ve loved most about playing this pedal the past week that I’ve had it is, is learning that, uh, it really. Is affected by the intensity of your picking attack. So it’s very dynamic in my experience and. When, when a delay pedal is like that. Cause I feel like you don’t get that a lot.

[00:07:13] Now let’s start introducing more tripper speed. Now that we’ve introduced about the intensity to about one o’clock

[00:07:46] Why not just turn it up all the way so you can hear it.

[00:08:21] good. The intensity and speed up and maybe turn the repeats up a little bit.

[00:08:49] you may be asking, especially after hearing that Emily wears the mix knob and the mix knob is controlled by an internal trim pot. So you have to take the knobs off of the back. Um, you can basically go from a little over 50%. To basically, um, mostly, mostly dry. So

[00:09:20] let’s look a little bit at that. Um, self oscillation. People really love that and delays myself included,

[00:09:31] not quite.

[00:09:40] That’s very close.

[00:09:54] found it. So let’s turn up the intensity above. Because it says that the, this is my experience

[00:10:05] that the, you heard that, huh? That the intensity and the feedback are intertwined. It’s true and it’s really, really cool. It’s neat. So I’m going to explore that with you a little bit with the speed tripper speed at about noon.

[00:13:32] So it took me a little bit to find it again. Um, but essentially when you have, and you find that sweet spot between instance intensity and feedback, it kind of undulates between that self oscillation and then going back out of that self oscillation and out. Like a nice sign wave. It’s real. If the definition of undulation is click away, uh, sorry.

[00:13:58] Uh, so it’s really, really nice. I’m a big fan of that sound. And then of course you can play with your picking attack. Um, give it more to get more of that. Uh, phaser sound and less to get more, just more of that sub delay sound. That’s traditional delay sound. Um, yeah, there’s really a lot to play with in here and a lot of great sounds.

[00:14:22] So I get, like, it says psychedelic and I definitely hear that every time I think about, uh, phasers or Flanders, I think about like a little bit of that psychedelic sound, but, um, you know,

[00:14:38] And I can still hear it or the ambient sound. So like, I just, there’s a lot to, it’s really kind of suits a lot of loves that I personally have. Uh, and I imagine throwing a fuzz in there would really, um, Messing stuff up. So

[00:15:25] Beautiful. Just beautiful. All right.

[00:16:24] all right. I’m just fun. Digging around.

[00:16:29] All right. So I decided to. Now I’m going to try this with the, uh, the Benson germanium fuzz. I got to turn the volume back up on the amp. Gotcha. While setting’s going to put it to bed normal or normal or setting. Get this clothes on.

[00:17:40] Uh, obviously it’s the, the Vinson, if you can see the light there, it’s warming up a little bit. So I’m just kind of having some fun. Uh, it’s not quite at, it’s not

[00:18:03] I’m already very glad I did this.

[00:22:47] I love it.

[00:22:53] It looks so sad.

[00:24:28] all right. None of that.

[00:24:32] Well, that’s a quick look at the speed tripper, a limited release by that by audio effects. Uh, I’ve never played a delayed pedal like this before, and I’ve played quite a few modular delay pedals because it is extremely my speed. I am, uh, hammered by this thing I been playing it. It’s for a lot of hours and I’m finally getting around the place doing the demo because there’s just a lot of sounds.

[00:24:59] And they said I could get swept away. It’s a very wavy kind of puddle and I cannot wait to take it to my band. It’s very, very musical for being as weird as it is. And it’s just excellent work by Oliver and Heather and the whole team over there. Big, thanks to them for sending this to me. To review, uh, just another great, great piece of work from them.

[00:25:29] Uh, check it out if you can, again, it’s a limited release, so I would not recommend snoozing Susie on it too long. Um, but yeah, please like comment, subscribe. If you can ring the bell for notifications to be a part of the premiers, we usually have a lot of fun. You’re in the chat right now at a well anyway, thanks for watching and thanks for understanding until next time.

[00:25:53] My name is Emily goodbye.
