Demo: Boss AC-2 Acoustic Simulator

Jolene might take your man, but to be honest, the AC-2 by Boss probably won’t take your acoustic guitar out of rotation.

However, it’s a fun, goofy little pedal that has its own charms. As long as you’re not too cool for school.

It has controls for volume, body, and top. Body adjusts the resonance of the simulated acoustic body. Top adjusts the overall brilliance and harmonics, according to the manual.

There are four different acoustic guitar modes:

1. Standard
2. Jumbo
3. Enhanced
4. Piezo

According to the manual, Standard mode is “a normal acoustic guitar.” I have no idea what that means. I guess dreadnought. I try not to think about it too much.

Jumbo is “an acoustic guitar with a body that is bigger than standard.” So, yeah, a jumbo acoustic. According to the manual, this mainly means the bass sound is more powerful.

Enhance mode is “an acoustic guitar with a more responsive attack, so the guitar will retain more of its prominence in almost any situation.”

Again, don’t think about it too much. I don’t and I’m happier for it.

Finally, Piezo simulates, you guess it, the sound of a piezo pickup installed on a guitar. Basically, there’s more compression during the attack. It’s neat. I think I like this one the most.

Do you want one yet?
