Recently retired, the Rainier Fuzz by Spruce Effects is “a nod to the classic, yet forgotten Jen Jumbo Fuzz.” It’s loud, it’s raw, it’s a beast.
There are four knobs:
- “Ring” control closest to input side controls the fuzz effect volume, louder is clockwise
- “Bark” controls the amount of fuzz, more fuzz is clockwise
- “Girth” controls the tone of the effect; clockwise is more treble, counterclockwise is more bass
- “Peak” controls the gated component of the fuzz (note: the germanium gate circuit reacts heavily on your guitar, pick attack, and other settings. What it sounds like at noon on one setting combo will not necessarily sound the same on another setting)
There are also two toggles:
- “Gate” toggle controls the presence of the germanium gate circuit; up is in, down is completely out
- “Cut” adds mids back in at the up position, stock in the down position
