The Atmosphere is a monster of a reverb pedal, in the best possible way. It offers 16 algorithms (each with its own unique parameters for you to control), the ability to assign CV/Exp/MIDI and Internal LFO to Res, Mix, Vol, Decay, CTRL1, CTRL2, and the option to assign the MULTI stomp to Patch Up, Patch Down, Preset/Default Bank, Infinite Hold On/Off, LFO Tap Tempo, LFO On/Off when tapped and Patch Up, Patch Down, Preset/Default Bank, Infinite Decay On, LFO On/Off when held.
Basically, this pedal was made to be used exactly the way you want to use it.
The knobs (according to the manual) are:
- Res: Sets the resolution of the DSP engine that makes the reverb effects. Turn it down for a “lower, slower, longer, grainier reverb sound.”
- Decay: Sets the reverb decay for each patch/mode.
- Tone: Active treble control on the wet signal only, not the dry.
- Mix: Mix of the reverb sound.
- Volume: Volume of the effect. If you turn up the mix, you can use this to get closer to unity gain.
- Tone:
- CTRL1 & CTRL2: This varies depending on the patch you’re using. I tell you what each one is in the video before I start messing with the effect.
- Patch Up, Patch Down, Preset/Default Bank, Infinite Decay On, LFO On/Off: Selects the mode.
And here’s a look at each mode along with time stamps:
- Spring: Yeah, Canadians can surf! CTRL1: Spring Length CTRL2: Drip Level
- Hall: Deep and dense with many reflections CTRL1: Pre-Delay CTRL2: Bass
- Octave: Octave Up or Down or mix between CTRL1: Octave +/- CTRL2: Oct/Rev Mix
- Rotary: Radical Rotating Speaker Simulator CTRL1: Rotating Rate CTRL2: Rotary/Rev Mix
- Plate: Fast reflections with dense bright sound CTRL1: Pre-Delay CTRL2: Bass
- Smear: Delay that you can diffuse into reverb CTRL1: Diffusion CTRL2: Delay Time
- Vibro: Reverb through pitch vibrato CTRL1: Vibrato Rate CTRL2: Vibrato Depth
- Gated: Set the gate length and the trigger level (meant for staccato notes/input like drums) CTRL1: Gate Length CTRL2: Gate Threshold
- Swell: Reverb that slowly fades in (meant for legato notes/input like pads) CTRL1: Reverb delay time CTRL2: Reverb swell time
- Filter: Reverb through steep low pass and high pass filters CTRL1: LPF cutoff CTRL2: HPF cutoff
- Mod FX: Reverb through some classic modulations (flanger, chorus, tremolo, ring mod) CTRL1: Modulation Rate CTRL2: Modulation Type
- React: Play quiet for lots of reverb & minimal filter, play loud for minimal reverb & lots of filter CTRL1: LPF cutoff CTRL2: Envelope Sensitivity
- Aether: Dreamy reverse delay or reverb with or without swirly phaser CTRL1: Reverse/Delay Mix CTRL2: Phaser
- Room: Medium reflections with warm sound CTRL1: Pre-Delay CTRL2: Bass
- Alias: Reduce the sample rate of the reverb CTRL1: Sample Rate CTRL2: Alias/Rev Mix
- Pitch: Reverb that is constantly falling or rising in pitch, or set the pitch manually CTRL1: Pitch Rate/Manual Pitch CTRL2: Pitch Down / Manual / Up
Quick note: I have the expression pedal set to control CTRL1, tap of MULTI to control tempo, and hold of MULTI to Infinite Decay.
