Fender’s MTG Tube Tremolo is a part of their newest line of all tube-driven pedals. YUP, there’s a tube in there — a NOS (New Old Stock) 6205 preamp tube.
Like all the Fender pedals (to my knowledge), it’s an all-original circuit and it comes housed in their aluminum enclosures, which look robust and stage-ready to me. Plus, it has those light-up LEDs, which I just LOVE.
But the pedal — like all usable tremolo pedals it has controls for level, rate, and depth (called intensity here). Speed can also be controlled by tap tempo in different subdivisions!
Then it has a mode toggle and a Wave knob. There are three different modes:
- Top: triangle, sine, wave
- Middle: ramp, triangle, sawtooth
- Bottom: adjustable square
You use the Wave knob to blend between the settings on the toggle. Full left is the first setting, noon is the next, full right is the final setting.
Now, my thoughts. I think it’s a great tremolo! I’m a sucker for tremolo, so I’ve played a lot of them, and I ALWAYS appreciate being able to choose between and blend wave forms. I also appreciate the range of speed on this pedal — it can go from super slow and undulating to hella fast and choppy.
The depth also has a lot of range — almost too much for me. I probably won’t ever have it to the left of noon.
The waveforms themselves are great. I don’t think enough tremolo pedals have that ramp up and it’s becoming a quick favorite of mine.
The only downside to this pedal is the same downside with 90% of tremolos: no panning/stereo. But hey, I don’t think 90% of players have hardcore stereo rigs, so no big deal there IMO.
