I’ve heard from more than a few people that they really really REALLY don’t like the output jacks on the Squier Paranormal Series Cabronia Baritone Telecasters. And I have to agree…mine wasn’t exactly flush with the guitar and didn’t feel super secure. So I decided to dig in to see what was causing the issue and fix it by installing an electrosocket.

[00:00:00] Emily: Well, it goes, they get offset. My name is Emily and I’m here again with my Squire paranormal series, a Cabernet baritone, a Telecaster. Um, yeah, and I have a few people in the comments. Talk a little bit about the output Jack on theirs and how they didn’t love it. And, you know, I haven’t really had any problems with mine.
[00:00:21] A couple people also mentioned the switch being cheap. Again, haven’t had any problems with my switch, so I feel kind of lucky in that way. Uh, some people said, and they hadn’t the same problem with a supersize from last year. Again, I didn’t have a problem with my supersonic from last year, uh, that it just wouldn’t stay in place.
[00:00:40] Um, but, uh, I can see what you all mean when you talk about the output Jack. It does not, it’s not flush with the body. You hold it up. Maybe you can see a little bit there. It’s kind of more visible and you’ll see everything in the back plate off. One more visible. They’re not flush mine. Doesn’t completely come out.
[00:01:02] Like some people have said that there’s does. Uh, but, uh, it will completely come out because I am going to take it out. I’m going to it. This Jack, and I’m going to replace it with an electro socket. So I’m pretty excited about this. Um, it’s a pretty easy switch. I’m fairly confident about making I D I may not even have to do any soldering.
[00:01:27] Um, assuming this little feller is all the same. I’ve I’ve soldered my fair share of, uh, output jacks. So I’m pretty confident in that regard. Um, I would take out the wall, the locking nut, the locking washer, just so I can use right angle cable with this. Um, I don’t really care if itself flush. I just need to drill some holes, squat guitar.
[00:01:59] Don’t really care about drilling, drilling any holes. I’m going to take you out. On the journey with me. So let’s go. So this is a pretty good angle on what people are so annoyed with. It’s it’s just, it’s not flush at all. I don’t have, um,
[00:02:24] yeah, let me grab my tools.
[00:02:31] Oh,
[00:02:38] This is fun. My tools are not where this post, my toolbox is empty, which means tools were not replaced, which is fun. So the first thing I’m going to do is I’m going to take this.
[00:03:03] Out the socket, since I don’t have the right tool for that handy, I’m just going to have to MacGyver it, which sucks. All right. So here I have the original outside of the Jack, which was ill fitting. We can all agree on that. And I felt something kind of interesting. They have, this is a solution they’ve had to keep everything else in place.
[00:03:36] Um, so they had the ill fitting kind of outside part of the JAG. And then they have this little spidery thing on the inside to keep it in place. And I won’t need that anymore. So I am going to remove it,
[00:03:55] I guess, with some needle nose pliers, how frustrating this is. Um, so it was kind of just an odd little setback. Uh, we have the locking. Not there easy enough to get that out. Kind of hard with the camera in my front there.
[00:04:22] Get out, get out. Oops. So that’s one piece that I won’t be using and then the rest will come out. Oh, don’t want to fall back into the body of the, the cavity of the guitar. So the rest is gonna need to come out. So I’m going to work on that. It looks like it’s just kind of been shoved in there. You can see right there where it really is just, I mean, it’s, that’s, that’s a solution.
[00:04:55] And a half, uh, certainly a solution to a problem, but it’s not what I want the solution to be for for this. Um, so yeah. Um, I’m actually going to take a step back there. I just want to make sure that I’m not getting too far ahead of myself here. I’m going to take my new Jack out of this little bag. I take my new Jack swing.
[00:05:27] Make sure that it fits. Yeah. That’ll fit perfectly and I’ll make sure I want to drill my holes.
[00:05:40] oh, I have a little pencil pencil over here. Mark those holes. I want to make sure they get it. And angle the correct angle. Otherwise the new Jack won’t, won’t be, uh, at the correct angle. Won’t sit flush. So let’s see. Did I see those? No, I can’t see those marks at all. Uh, so I’m probably going to do that again.
[00:06:14] Let’s see you look, huh. All right. So I want to go ahead and I’m going to do this by myself. I’m going to do it off camera. So I have a little bit more space. No offense to you all, but, uh, it’s just, the camera is making it a little bit harder. The space, it is always going to eternally bother me, probably that there’s going to be this paint issue.
[00:06:39] Um, the lip on the previous. Plug kind of covered that. Um, but it’s not a big deal, not a big deal at all. All right. I hope I don’t have to rewire all that up. So it looks like I might not even have to remove this, frankly, but I think I, I suspect that probably will. Yeah. Okay. All right. See you all in a second.
[00:07:12] Okay. So I’ve drilled my holes. You cannot see them. They’re in there. I promise. So next I’m going to fish out the input Jack, and, uh, get it in as they say, oh, and it’s a little. So it doesn’t really fit. Let me think on this for a second. Okay. So unfortunately the fender does not fit the electro socket, but thankfully the electric socket came with its own Jack.
[00:07:56] So I’m going to heat up the soldering iron, which is I have a Weller. I’m going to go ahead. Do that over here, get everything ready, have a great time. And I’m just going to do it one at a time. So let’s talk while the soldering iron heats up, I’m going to grab my solder. Find my daughter. Some reason was not expecting the solder today.
[00:08:26] Uh,
[00:08:36] Got my solder and turning on the soldering iron let’s look at the Jack here. So we have the black is the ground
[00:08:55] on the tip. That’s going to go to that. The white. It’s going to go to the right right there. So I want to do one at a time. So don’t mess up. I’ve done this a hundred times. Maybe not quite a hundred. I’ve done this a lot of times, but you know, It never hurts to just exercise caution, go slowly, do one thing at a time.
[00:09:22] Couldn’t possibly hurt you to just go slowly and do one thing at a time. I’m also going to put on my mask because I do, you saw her with lead. So sorry about that, mom. All right. Okay. Great. So let’s get a little test and see,
[00:09:53] oh, fucking in the soldering. I mean, it’s helpful
[00:10:01] when soldering, so I was going to take a second for this to warm up. Oh, this has been a pretty easy process. Obviously, you know, parts are largely interchangeable. Um, I thought it was about, you know, it was more likely than not. I figured I’d have to recenter restarted. His parts always helps looking at it as many times as he can.
[00:10:34] So not the worst thing that’s happened to me today.
[00:10:45] Great. Does that make anybody else’s nurses and Navy? Alright, let’s get that down.
[00:11:05] So
[00:11:10] I got plenty of visible wire there. Get my solder. That’s Precita that joint get some heat on that joint.
[00:11:33] Now,
[00:11:38] this is why I like helping hands. I know it’s like when people are real, like if he about helping hands, I really like it.
[00:12:02] It’s the worst. I’m embarrassed by my performance right now. I’m never going to get a job as a guitar tech. That’s going to make life easier for myself. Free up a little bit more of that wire.
[00:12:42] Great. Perfect.
[00:12:52] Where are my helping hands. I said to nobody about me, or here
[00:13:03] I can do this.
[00:13:12] I have made guitar pedal. Sometimes it’s usually in the fucking guitar is my problem. Usually when I’m doing this is N the damn guitar, and that just makes it a little bit easier to frickin do
[00:13:35] for some reason.
[00:13:40] It’s not rolling around on me,
[00:13:48] freaking it like maniacs.
[00:14:37] Yeah, I think that’s fine. I don’t think that’s going to short out or anything. I think that’s fine. All right. Now the, the other one, I’m definitely gonna
[00:14:55] try not to burden myself on this one.
[00:15:04] All right. You know, out of practice having Saturday Ana moment,
[00:15:20] it’d be a little bit nicer to myself and there’s a long Workday.
[00:15:36] Oh, it looks a lot better. That one was easier. There we go. Hey. Hey. Hey, we got soda four days. All right. How about it is the longest part of the video so far. So I’ve got my solder pretty sure it’s in the right place, feeling pretty confident about it, to be honest, going to just.
[00:16:20] Make sure this gets back to the body there. Alright, great. Now I just find our screws.
[00:16:35] I think those darlin say screws, get loose, tighten them up.
[00:16:54] Tell you what it’s really tie the screw when it’s between you and the screw. So you can see when it’s not all flushed the electric socket, you can use a right angle Jack. There. No problem, no problem at all. So I’m really excited. I’m happy I did this. Uh, I was like playing guitars with Electra sockets.
[00:17:25] Cause I don’t like adjusting, adjusting loose output jacks. I can get on some Teles. So, Hey, there it is. Thank you for watching. Uh, I’ll let you know if it doesn’t work for any reason, that’s going to bug me forever. That’s not my fault. That is the fault of, uh, that little metal piece they shoved in there to fix the problem that they made when they didn’t size it right for this.
[00:18:01] So. For that I say not, not Squyres slash vendors best work and kind of maybe the most annoying thing, uh, they did. I’ve seen done with this paranormal series, uh, here is that I’ll pull out of this guitar was shame as Gordon Ramsey would say, oh, thanks for watching. Thanks for understanding, please like comment subscribe below until next time.
[00:18:30] My name is Emily goodbye.
