The Astrolicious Fuzz is a collaboration between Spruce and Dirge, is based on the Sam Ash Astrotone, and sold out in like ten minutes. But can this thing really be worth the hype? Did I set an alarm to buy this for nothing?
Well let’s just say I’m not listing it on Reverb anytime soon.

[00:00:00] Emily: Welcome to get offset. My name is Emily and I’m here today with the Astro malicious V2, a collaboration between spruce effects and dirge. Uh, this is not sent to me to demo. I actually bought this. This is more of a show and tell kind of thing. So, uh, go easy on me. I’m not trying to sell anything. I literally thought this over the weekend, I woke up, had alarms.
[00:00:28] Got the last one. It’s engraved is profanity, but, uh, it’s based on a FAS circuit made in the late sixties by Sam Ash. Uh, and, uh, I guess not. The prior page is hilarious. Let me just read it. Astro licious myth legend, unknown. Okay. Sorta known the Asher tone was a fuzzbox made in the late sixties by Sam Ash had a couple of different versions, not very interesting.
[00:01:01] Couple random Silicon transistors, some cliff thing, diodes, pretty cruddy tone control, and a comparatively weak output. So a spruce and dirge hooked up to turn it into something a lot more versatile and fun. The version one was a huge success. And, uh, apparently this one is two it’s sold out in about 10 minutes.
[00:01:28] So, uh, there is a quote spicy germanium gain stage slim in the front or back. You can switch that there though. You’ll never know which is which, because. Well, there’s no indicators, no LEDs. You don’t know, you don’t need them. You’re going to know which is which you just got to know. Uh, each one is different hand engraved by dirge, uh, assembled by spruce and, uh, Yeah, let’s take the look at the controls.
[00:02:02] Volume gets loud gain, uh, controls of the level of the germanium gain stage clip gives you two clipping options. One is on the left and one is on the right. They say they don’t remember, which is which cool, uh, depth controls the input beef of the germanium gain stage, uh, thicker, thin your choice. You can tell, which is which their tone is, uh, gives you a lot more ETQ shaping than the original, uh, I guess Asher tone, um, phys controls the amount of FAS and this order button, uh, puts the germanium gain stage before or after the main circuit.
[00:02:53] And that’s one you’ll never know, which is what. Because there’s no indicator lights, any hardware knobs have no indicators cause you don’t need them. And, uh, the PCB has inspirational quotes print on it. Like your Strat sucks and fuss for babies screws on minor stripped. So I will never know. I’ll never see them.
[00:03:19] So, uh, here’s my clean tone P played through my super, my tone master super reverb. Vendor player plus Strat both of which Brian from spruce would certainly make fun of me for
[00:03:39] plenty of river, because why not? This is with everything down. Turn the volume up, turn the game. It’s still nothing, because I got to turn the fuzz up.
[00:04:18] Let’s crank the gain all the way and just slow, like we have a good your FAS. So let’s see how it sounds with a lot of gain. Just a little bit of fuzz and just as little volume as we can get away with.
[00:05:08] now let’s take the opposite approach and crank that phys. And turn the game down to just as little bit as we can get away with.
[00:06:30] you can get some more games.
[00:06:45] now let’s get that death all the way to counter-clockwise
[00:06:53] might be described as the thin set
[00:07:04] the first is still all the way up.
[00:08:20] shaped that a little bit there.
[00:08:26] We’re sweeping. I should say
[00:08:32] I like that all the way. Clockwise
[00:08:37] let’s flip that toggle
[00:10:19] Is there anything, this can’t sound like
[00:12:04] Art quite maxed getting their depths back to the right clockwise.
[00:12:25] Now, let’s see what this does.
[00:13:44] Got cocky.
[00:14:59] It’s open everything back up again.
[00:15:49] I don’t know how I avoid clipping there, but that was my show Intel of the Astro licious V2. I’m not sure when, if, how many there will be, if there is another run on these, but if there is. You know, join joined this fruits effects email list because that’s really the only chance in hell. You have to get one of these, uh, unless someone rudely very, very rudely, resells it on reverb for way too much money.
[00:16:23] So, uh, yeah. Check, join the email as for your best shot at getting one of these limited runs that Brian does every so often, uh, I be honest, that’s I, to be honest, that’s something that’s a lot more versatile than I was expecting. Like, damn, there’s some sounds in that
[00:16:52] excellent work, Brian, as always. And again, I bought that with full price, with my own money. I sat in alarm, so I got the last one. And I’m very happy now I’m especially happy. So, uh, yeah. Thanks for watching. Thanks for understanding, please like comment, subscribe below Chickasaw, patrion.com/get offset. We got for fuzz sake shirts, uh, at get offset podcast.com/shop until next time.
