The Squier Paranormal Series Super-Sonic sounded alright out of the box, but what would make it better? Easy, Lollar Pickups and Gunstreet Wiring.
The stock pickups on this guitar were totally fine — they definitely embraced that ’90s sound and worked well with dirt. But I need more of a clean sound than those stock pickups were able to provide.
So I put in a few emails to Lollar Pickups and Gunstreet wiring shop and settled on the Lollar Imperials (with a low-wound neck) and a Gunstreet wiring harness that gives me a master tone/volume (previously it had just been volume/volume) and coil splitting so I can get that single-coil clarity.
I couldn’t be happier with the results. I liked the feel of the Super-Sonic out of the box but the pickups just weren’t going to fit with the music I typically play. Lollars are expensive but in this case, I think they’re totally worth it.
Amp is Strymon Iridium. Cable is Transit Labs.

Hey, I’m Emily from get offset and I’m here once again with the new, paranormal series squire supersonic, I’ve only done one video with this versus a few for the offset Telecaster. And there’s a good reason. I promise I loaned this to my singer because she was thinking about getting one. she’s decided that she’d rather have the cyclone.
So this is back to me and I am going to do a good put through some paces. the first thing I noticed when I got this guitar and played it is that I, I didn’t love the, the clean sound on the pickups. So that’s one of a couple of things that I wanted to keep in mind when thinking about upgrades, modifications, et cetera.
And the other thing was, these are both volumes and I, I get how people would use that I think is kind of odd. so I have put in a few calls, to some friends, first things, Sean, at gun street wiring. My favorite wiring shop sent me this wiring harness. Cool with some instructions. So what I have here and I don’t want to give away too much is I have, I crack myself up.
I have split coils and a masters shown in volume instead of two volumes. So basically I’ll be able to turn these humbuckers into, in the single coil. Which I think will help some with the clarity. I mean, I think out of the box, it sounds really good with, with distortion of, if you’re looking for clean tones, this is not my favorite.
The next thing I did was Lollar pickups. I ordered from them
a set of humbuckers. I believe they’re called the imperials. I actually do need to look up what they’re calling cause just, I forgot. It’s just the first result when you, when you look at them. So I got a bridge four wire and a neck four wire, then the bridge has the f spacing and the neck is under wound.
So. it also has a four way wire split. I’ll just hold this up here.
Where am I split wires? Zebra still. So it’s going to look, you know, a little more, it’s a little more cream than white. but I think these will be beefy. I think they’ll sound really good. I need to figure which is which.
Cause they both seem to say the same thing, crud. Ah, that’s hard for me, but I’ll figure it out and will be a lot of fun. So I’m going to play, Oop, I’m going to play this just a little bit. just through the strymon iridium in the round B setting. get some, get some baseline sounds before we, before we do the swap.
So
Alright, going to add some gain and check the volume levels as well.
I should know that those were both in the middle position. So let’s go up to the neck.
Okay. Alright, let’s go back to clean. Just completely clean. Cause I didn’t feel like I’d do that one very well.
So listen, stay in tune. Great. I’m going to add some graphite to the nut. I have different, string trees. String retainers, whatever I’m going to put on there. Maybe not today, but eventually. Yeah.
all right. That’s what it sounds like going to get my pickup questions sorted out. put turns on this. maybe put that string retainer on there. If I can find it it’s in my garage somewhere. yeah, so. Come back and see a
Hey, welcome back. I’m still here. And the supersonic, how’s it. Pickups husband pickups has new wiring. I have never been more nervous, rewiring a guitar, and I’ve done a lot weirder. Things rewiring and because the little push pool pot switches were so tiny, I wasn’t sure if I was doing everything right.
And I don’t think I was, but this is a weird guitar. It’s allowed to be a little wonky. I will show you what I mean. I have literally just plugged this in for the first time, wiped a little bit of sweat off my brow and here I am. So let’s have them, let’s play both pickups as, Humbuckers in the middle.
So you would think that you go this way up, you would hit the. Bridge pickup used the wrong
Let’s go to the, neck
One thing I had promised was that I would have a master tone and a master volume. And do I
I do. And what else do I have spoil a spoiler alert. I call cuts a nice recovery, Emily. So this is where it gets kind of, I don’t know if I did this,
- Actually, I think I did, if I know the switches backwards, but I’m pretty sure it’s that it was backwards before or not. I don’t remember either way. I’m not bothered. If I have to flip this guy over, I have to flip this guy over no big deal.
So I call that a success. Let’s listen to the coil, cut on the neck.
It works. let’s let’s play it. I’m just going to play. I’m going to turn the gain up all the way.
Once again, that riff is by rat boys. So I want to play round on the middle position. Both are humbuckers
Now you have a single coil in neck and the, yeah, the neck
Two single coils.
Just a single coil in the bridge.
and I’m going to tune.
That was really only the aide I was out of tune. So I also added a choke there, a little roller. Boys as a string retainer, instead of what had been there, which is just kind of a classic string retainer that you would see when you don’t live up. I brought a system and I put some graphite in the nut. I think that’s making a difference, but.
I really love playing with like a single coil and a humbucker config.
It’s really cool.
You know what? That’s not nearly enough gain. I’m going to go to go to the Marshall sounds on the Iridium.
Oh yeah.
okay. I think, I think you get, I think you get it. I think you get the idea. I think. I hope so. Cause I do, these pickups are an absolute upgrade. I, like in the, in the description to the, our website, but yeah, I got the underwhelmed and the neck and I think it sounds so cool. And I will say, say that getting the gun street wiring harness from Shawn with the push full.
Yeah, I really, really liked the sound of these, of these guys getting split into, into a single playing around. I would have played this guitar so much for now, and it seems to be staying in tune a lot better. I didn’t really do that much. I add the little, string retainers that were different. I put a little bit of graphite in the nut.
I think that it’s like a 10 to 48 string. So not, not really that heavy, I just didn’t really want to screw around with it doing too much other words to too, which I probably would have. And that’s why I have an 11. So whatever I have one, I have a, yeah, I’m going to play this guitar a lot more now. I love it.
I’m very excited. I’m very happy. full disclosure. The wiring harness was sent to me by Sean for the demo. I did buy the Lollers and I did buy this guitar for the reminder. Yeah. So thanks for watching. Please check out. I’ll also link to the original demo. The original demo I did with the supersonic, I will, link to gunshot wiring.
I’m gonna have a link to the Lollers that I used. And just some other notes. If you want a transcript to this video, for any reason, check this out, get offset podcasts.com. I will probably put a link to that as well if I remember, but yeah, I. I love it more than I loved it before. And that’s what, that’s the point of doing mods?
You don’t do a mod just because you can, you do a modification, even on nicer guitar, quote, unquote, nicer guitars, or you quote unquote ruin the resale back. You do it because when you do modifications, you’ll play the guitar more. And that was the case with this. I thought the pickups for, okay. They were great with distortion, but I do play a lot of cleans in, in my lifestyle.
I’m not always like, hi gain, babe ness. Not me. That’s not really the music that I play. Sometimes I need to be a little more jangley sometimes I needed to be lot heavier and to have a guitar and sometimes I need to be like super sweet jazzy, clean. This will have every sound I need in it at this point, from what I can tell.
So I’m very happy with it. Huge. Thanks to Shawn, huge things to Loller, big ups to Fender for bringing this sweet, sweet thing back. I think they’re mostly out of stock right now. I think that in August, they’re going to have more of these available. So keep your eyes peeled, get on the wait list on the fender website.
I have the waitlist set up for a couple of the, paranormal series guitars as well. I’m going to give you back some time in your day. I don’t know why I said that I’m tired. I’m going to go upload. This video now edit it. I’m so sorry. like subscribe comment below if you still, if you haven’t turned this off by now until next time.
Thanks for watching. Thanks for understanding. I’m Emily goodbye.
