When I was eight years old, I got my first guitar for Christmas. To say the least, it was life-altering. I’m pretty sure the only reason it took me until age eight to get one was that my hands had been too small at a younger age. They didn’t make kids’ guitars back then that I was aware of.
But the LOOG Mini is just the right size for toddler hands. And now that my niece, who has always been very interested in guitars (thanks to the film Coco), turned three, I decided we should try to get her into playing guitar.
Behold, the LOOG Mini!
It has three nylon strings (tuned like 1, 2, 3 on a six-string) and comes with flashcards to help kids learn chords. There’s also an app which…failed on me immediately.
It doesn’t seem to stay in tune too well, but it definitely seems built to withstand whatever a toddler can throw at it (which is a lot). I’m not sure that she’s old enough at three to really get into learning the chords, but now that it’s in her life maybe she’ll turn to it whenever she’s ready.
