Welcome to get all set. My name is Emily and I’m here today with the by walrus effects as part of their Macko M a K O series a. And if you have seen, I’ve done another demo on the ACS one by the time this is released, I am using the ACS one as my amp. That was also sent to me to review by walrus audio.
They sent me the entire macro series. And now I’m going to be very embarrassed if I said that wrong. Yeah, so they sent me a demo. Here’s the, the ACS ones over there. I’m using their a fender. Sound a, on both sides of the cab have true stereo going here. Let’s talk a little bit about the controls of this pedal and then I’ll get to playing really quickly.
So you had the decay pretty common on a reverb pedal. It’s basically how long did it. The trails ring out for, if you want to think about it that way. Yeah. Swell is an optional switch that creates makes any of these reverbs a swelled type reverb. So there’ll be a delay before it swells up and is all ambient and washy, praise and worship and ambient players.
They’re going to love that mix simply the mix of the reverb, and then like all of the series. There are all these toggles, these two. Controls relate to this toggle. This just changes the reverb mode there. One, two, three, four, five, six Reaver bodes on this and a total of nine presets. I’ll get to that later.
You don’t care yet. We have this tweak now. This is largely for the modulation. You scan over to whichever parameter you want to tweak. And then he turned the knob. Every single one has modulation rate and depth control, and there’s an X that’s different for each reverb setting. I’ll try to get to those as I go through them.
I’m sorry. I’m talking quickly. People tell me these interests are too long. Then we have tune in tune. Predominantly features out of features out filters, outer in the highs and lows within the, the reverb there. And let me look at one more thing. Yes. The X contains a diff weight. Oh, my goodness.
That’s where the X’s. I was losing my, my little, my little brain. So that is the X is different. Every single one. I wasn’t even looking at the pedal tweak controls, the modulation rate depth and an optional pre delay all the way down. There’s no pre delay. And if you don’t know what pre delay is, it’s that time of between.
When you play and when the reverb starts. So I will demonstrate that for you as best as I can, where did my guitar pick go? I found it, my Ernie ball prodigy picks that I paid for. So I’ve turned it down. I actually could hear the rate in there a little bit. I’ve turned it down the room on the ACS one.
So here is what my. Clean signal. Sounds like
alright. So I have mixed in the middle decay in the middle. I don’t have any swell yet. I’m going to make sure my modulation is basically down. My pre delay is down. So that is the first mode is spring. That is that trippy surface. Sound that people like that I like as well. It’s a nice short
So you can kind of hear that trippy sound a little bit.
So it sounds a little bit of pre delay. So no real pre delay, still
pre delay for you. All right. I’m going to keep that down. Decay. I kind of have it noon. Let’s show off what that swelled up.
I’ll keep them mixed, turned up just so you can more clearly and obviously hear it. So
way up because it does go full blast. So I’m going to keep it around. Can you see that? So that’s noon. That’s like one 30
swell. It’s interesting. So I think church planners especially are going to like that.
Let’s start to tweak the rate in depth. Let’s hear this modulation. I am of the mind that, that you either have a high rate or a high depth, but generally not both really high. So turn that depth down. So we can hear.
So that’s what a higher depth and a slower, right. Let me just drop them both down and let’s listen to it to kind of tuning out an end that high and low. So let’s do the high first.
Crank the lows I’m on the lows. Let’s crank the love. You can really hear it. I think
actually sounds a little weird to me.
it sounds weird, but that’s to say, I’m glad that it exists because again, as always, it should either go too far or it’s not going far enough. Let’s keep that in the middle. Hi,
It’s interesting to be able to tune it. People pay a lot of money to have pedals that have different voicings and their reverb like that. So if you’re, if you like tweaking, you’ll tweak without a lot, if you don’t like tweaking you’re, you’re never going to touch that because it’s, that’s like the last thing he’s weakened reverb.
It’s really good to be able to. And then the X factor, the X factor for the spring as a gentle, warm overdrive to the reverb input, simulating overdrive in the spring tank.
Oh, that’s nice.
It’s really cool. That’s really cool. I liked that. Shoot. I really liked that. I got to drop that back down. Let’s move to the second reverb type. This is a haul reverb, traditional kind of reverb. The X-Factor in this controls, the size of the room, smaller at lower settings and then higher, bigger. Okay.
Small room, big room.
Yeah, and that will definitely interact with the decay knob.
I like that, man.
all right. Swells on that are gonna work the same.
I feel like, I feel like there’s something kind of every once in a while, it just catches weird almost.
like sometimes it’s sustains and you can pick underneath it and then there won’t continue to be swelled. Like the first node will be swelled and then the rest will be plucked. Like no.
They swell also. And I don’t really know what the math is on that, but I imagine it. So you get used to as you play more, but it’s throwing me off a little bit.
do you hear that? Some of them were plucked immediately and some swelled in, so that’s interesting. I’m sure again, I’ve said this once. You’ll probably get you soon as you play more and you’ll adjust your playing appropriately. And that’s just part of developing relationships with pedals. So next I’m going to move to plate.
I really like plate reverb for longer things for plucky or things. I prefer spraying. If I don’t know what I’m going to do, I prefer room. If I know it’s going to be like more legato type playing that’s long, slow undulating flowing notes. I think I prefer the plate. The It’s inspired by the EMT. One 40 X adds a gentle, warm grit to the front end of the program.
Simulating driving a hot signal into the plate. Okay.
I should move it to play now.
I love that. From a plate
let’s see how the swells react with this one.
Which again, not good or bad. Just one of the pointed out to you pre delay, let’s add some preflight to this. Mm.
Smack it. Yeah, you can hear that better. That way
might be a little bit much. I know, like a lot of pre delay with my plate.
should, I’m using my American professional to series Jazzmaster. Plate is a plate is one where I think you might want to play with the filters. Some from this tone tune or tone
right. Cause I think that it’s possible to have a plate that’s super more common. Let’s look at that grit.
different in ways I didn’t expect. I feel like adding that overdrive, warmed, warmed up the plate entirely and I don’t and, you know, makes it sound little. Less brittle
case where I personally would probably go in and tweak, tweak that the high a little bit more let’s move all along to our next sound. That is B F R, which stands for no holds barred, big fucking reverb, big fucking river. The F-word is actually bleeped out of the manual. If. If I ever sell this on reverb, the first thing I’m doing before I sell, as I’m pulling off of, and I don’t plan on selling it, I’m pulling out the manual and I’m writing the actual effort in there.
This is more than a giant arena river. It is a haul ESC reverb with rich and lush decay in a vast cavern filled with choirs of angels, big fucking reverb. I’m gonna have to put a warning on the beginning of this video, because I’m not bleeping that. And just reminder, I do have some modulation on all of these.
I’ll do the swelling as well. But at this point, I think you kind of get the picture. They, yeah. The X factor is the X knob controls the amount of diffusion. Plied to the delayed network delay network. At lower settings, delay taps are more apparent at higher settings. They’re smoothed out to create a soft bed of reverb.
Nice.
the thing about cussing is I feel like if you’re going to cuss, you should cuss. Usually every once in a while say far enough, I’m in front of my niece or on the podcast or something. But if you’re going to do it in your marketing manual, just, just say the F word, just say the afforded only even apply a CFR, say farts, big farting river.
Probably not the most. The nicest way to just, that’s probably not what anyone’s looking for. A reverb, unless you’ve ever participated in a very empty room. What am I doing? I’m never getting hired to do another demo ever.
I think I like the a X knob turned down on that one. Next we have the refract setting. It allows for lovely, charming and glitch, light textures. Those are all words that I like hovering over a largely diffused reef. I can’t, what did I say? It’s so big. I’m so poor. The rate controls on the refract.
Change how often the glitch effect occurs while the depths controls the overall volume of the glitch effect, which means I am going to touch those up. Let’s tweak settings. Again, X changes the feel of the glitching from dark and low-fi at minimum, which is what it is to bright and present at higher settings.
All right. I’m excited. I like what you thinks. I don’t like these. I AM’s, I need to get some ultimate ears. Jeez. All right. Cool.
I really want to hear what this fall sounds like with this.
I feel almost like you’re more blending, you’re swelling, the dry signal, but that’s just how I feel about it. Right. Let’s go to rate which again, controls how often it occurs. So more often glitches.
We can make them louder glitches. Now
now let’s change the fidelity of those glitches.
And that feels especially stereo to me. So I’m really into that. But we have to move on to the air. That’s the last of the river programs. It’s a larger diffused reverb with a subtle shimmer, but has a more crisp AKA CRISPR clarity to it’s the gay Xplore slow building sounds that don’t get in the way of your playing air compliments keys.
And since as well. All right. X control C and of wind. Do we think this winter wind it’s called air. So I’m going with wind and shiver effects of the air program. As zero. The effect will be off the air of the wind and shimmer will be off turning clockwise will increase the volume of the air effect.
is definitely one.
another one where you might wanna. Revisit. I can see why they added the ability to do that because within the settings, within all these programs, you, you very well might want to tweak how that decay sounds and like how bright or how dark it is.
Cool. And as far as presets go, this is your preset deck. You can have up to nine presets on this an a, B, and a C you hold down to get to the next preset bank. It’s similar to how the chase bliss, automaton pedals work. And I’m sure I taught of other pedals work that way, too.
But you can turn on trails. So yes, mini USB for updates, stereo and stereo out. Definitely some true stereo effects in there. I couldn’t tell at all, they were all like super cool.
Well, obviously stereo, I mean then again, I’m also running a stereo pedal over here, but I, like, I think for a fract was my favorite by like a mile by like glitchy stuff. I thought the spring was really convincing. I don’t think there’s a loser in it. I don’t think I would use the air very much, but I’m not much of a shimmer guy.
But you’re not a guy or a gorilla, please. Don’t comment that show. Yeah, I don’t, there’s not a loser in there. I think it’s a really, really great reverb pedal that would explain why they’re sold out on the walrus audience site.
