The newest Acoustasonic is both familiar and a departure for the series. The tonal options are a bit of a greatest hits, featuring two acoustic sounds, two piezo sounds, and two electric sounds. Plus, the Acoustasonic Player Telecaster is powered by a 9v battery instead of USB, making it ideal for touring.

[00:00:00] Emily: Well, how do you and welcome to get offset? My name is Emily and I’m here with a new acoustic Sonic player, Ella caster from fender. This is the new, uh, barely stripped down, significantly more affordable version of their wildly successful. Um, I see you haters in the chat already. Howdy and hello. Uh, despite what some people may say, this line has been pretty successful for fenders.
[00:00:35] So successful. In fact, they opened up a plant just to build these from my understanding, if I’m wrong, someone is going to tell me, I just know it from experience. I have that experience. But anyway, yes, vendors sent me this demo. I am very proud and thankful for letting me be a part of this launch of this is my second experience with an acoustic Sonic.
[00:01:03] I had previously been a part of the launch for the acoustic Sonic American made jazz master. I specify American made for the jazz Vassar, because this has made in Mexico, the supplier series name I’ve, uh, demoed some players here. Guitars are fender as well, most recently, their player plus series Telecaster.
[00:01:25] Um, and I was really blown away by the bill quality on that. I knew them. I knew they were going to be some things that people didn’t like. And I know that the, because Sonic is a little bit controversial, but let me just go ahead and talk about the, the main differences between this and the American made a cruise to Sonic line.
[00:01:49] I’m going to start with the most positive difference that I personally have noticed. And I really hope that they move this to the American line. Um, the American line to charge the pickup. The active electronics requires a USB, this nine volt battery as a performer. Sometimes it goes on tour. I prefer the nine volt battery.
[00:02:16] Please give me the nine volt battery. I want it, I want it because I, you know, not always near like USB charging station, um, not always near my computer. So I would just forget sometimes I just forget my phone dies. Um, watch battery dies. Other electronics that needs to be charged by USB die. Uh, nine volt batteries.
[00:02:36] I can go pretty much anywhere and find a nine volt battery. I think. It is a great addition to this honestly kinda makes me prefer it. Um, my singer is borrowing my acoustic jazz master right now. I don’t think she’s ever charged it. So I don’t think she’s used it much. Whatever, uh, I’m going to trade her for this very soon, just because I know she’s going to get a lot more use out of it.
[00:03:06] Uh, the, the main difference and the reason that, uh, this is, this is a player other than that it’s made in Mexico instead of having five positions, this has three, which means that having 10 voices, it has sex, uh, with a blend in AB blend, you can go from a hard. Change for soft change, basically anywhere in between these two voicings.
[00:03:33] Uh, the one thing I really miss in this and I’ll get to it in the end. It does not have the body sensor pickup. So I won’t be yelling into this guitar, uh, quite as much, quite as much, uh, at least not to the same effect though. I might still be trying why not yelling to avoid when there’s a void you yell into.
[00:03:57] I’m doing great. Um, but yeah, I’ve had this guitar for about a week. Um, I’ve been really, really enjoying it. Uh, the bill quality let’s talk about that has a nice roll fret edges. Uh, come shipped with Eleven’s deals. Great in light for an acoustic, um, pretty standard. It doesn’t feel as bad. As the jazz master, which is the one that I personally have experienced with, I’ve never had experience with, uh, the acoustic Sonic Telecaster previously.
[00:04:29] So I can’t really speak to that. Um, so I do notice a difference as far as just playing it acoustically. I prefer the jazz master. Once I plug it in, I don’t personally feel a huge difference. Um, and this does feel obviously much smaller on the body. It looks. And slim and small, and I got the butterscotch finished.
[00:04:52] There are a few finishes, I believe about four. Um, so this just spoke to me and I quite am liking it. I’ve been playing it pretty much nonstop. It’s just been fun. Sorry, too much talking. Um, let’s get into the playing. I’m going to start a third position, which would normally be the neck pickup on a standard guitar.
[00:05:15] Uh, it is. The acoustic sounds on this, uh, standard because the Sonic would have four acoustic sounds. This has two, I’m turning it to the, oh gosh, the AP position, which would be turning it kind of like. I don’t know why I’m like really stressing about this. If it was to turn like a guitar pedal, it’d be turning it to the left.
[00:05:40] So that’s the eighth position. It’d be mahogany, small body short scale. And, uh, I’m going to just play it, play around a little bit on it. No effects. Don’t worry. I’ll get into some effects. I’m playing through my super reverb tone. Master was a little bit of reverb on it. So. Thank you. Let’s get into the playing.
[00:06:01] Sorry for the talking. Had to say some things.
[00:06:37] Grab a Peck.
[00:07:10] Again, I am tuned down a half a step just so I could play the Alison train song. Real nice.
[00:07:32] All right. Uh, that was a lot, let’s go to the Rosewood red knot and you just kind of blend between, um, so actually let me just from an eCourt as I kind of go between
[00:07:48] so now there I am in the Rosewood Dreadnought sound. Right.
[00:07:57] Maybe I should just play that right.
[00:08:29] what am I, patriotic support is brought up that song. Literally yesterday. And I was like, oh gosh, you know, what I need to play in this demo is song that makes me cry. Whenever I think about it.
[00:09:09] some finger-picking
[00:09:40] that was just some bonus. I moved back to the eight position and the back and to the two position on the toggle. And those are a flip into the middle of my booklet. I do have a cheat sheet because I don’t want to say the wrong words. I get eviscerated when I do, it’s going to be a low fire clean sound.
[00:10:06] And there’s a little PSO under the, um, bridge there that you can hear. You can hear a little bit, see, I said, oh, I said I would do a little bit of that.
[00:10:24] So some more acoustic sound. There. I got some good friends going on and kind of see them.
[00:11:33] Is there a better in TV and plugged in the Alison Chainz one, maybe the Nirvana one,
[00:11:41] maybe
[00:11:58] I don’t know what I went to that when I been practicing all day
[00:12:27] you can’t see. Yeah, Mark’s lb man. Great songwriter. I’m going to move into the B position going to blend in that low-fi crunch as I do. So
[00:12:48] supposed to give you more of an electric. It’s supposed to give you more of an electric down. I don’t know if you can share that at all.
[00:13:26] I’m a big fan of that setting. Alright.
[00:14:00] Uh,
[00:14:08] I actually bought that tab book as a teenager, so I could learn how to play all the ELLs and chain songs. All right.
[00:14:34] It’s really fun. All right. Last but not least, we have some electric sounds that are mostly in this little pick here. Pick up, pick up there. Uh, it’s a noiseless tele pickup. Let me just read it. Produces. Grab it. Print is classic fender tele towns via Tim Charlotte as I noiseless pickup. And the beef position, it adds some turns up the power for a fatter dirty.
[00:15:04] Sounds. So this is supposed to sound like an just like normal Telecaster.
[00:15:43] so the output’s a little bit lower. Um, just something to get the cleanness of it.
[00:16:38] and then the output increases. You hear a bit of a hum being introduced, even though it says noise less, a little bit. I don’t know. I think just the tech, I’m still gonna play story in the song.
[00:17:50] It’s kind of falling away from it there. All right. Now I’m going to move over. Whew. I hit my pumpkin as I did that. I’m gonna put on some compression.
[00:18:08] I don’t know. I put away the pig. I usually play
[00:18:14] with a pick
[00:18:44] the I’ll think my playing would be convincingly chicken, picking my things. His guitar would necessarily be convincingly. Tele either.
[00:20:28] well, I’ve never played that clean let’s play dirty on dirty.
[00:21:52] sorry, is it center platform?
[00:23:07] I got some
[00:23:16] dog, man devices go fire.
[00:24:39] I mean, I’m having a lot of fun with this guitar. Obviously. I’m going to get away from the FX a little bit. Um, last time I had accused the Sonic, I did a live where I went through whatever affects anybody wanted me to, I’m going to do the same this time. So please keep an eye out. Subscribe to my channel, hit this.
[00:25:00] Hit the notify button. Um, I’ll get plenty of warning, uh, when I do go live. So that you’ll know. Um, if you do a super chat, I will definitely pick whatever effect type or a specific pill. If I have. If, so, do you want me to do the first pro by Z? That I’ll do it. You want me to do the Iowasca by chase plus affects I’ll do it nude.
[00:25:24] I’ll do the blooper. I’ll do the, um, Grazer by dwarf craft. I’ll do whatever weird effect that’s in the shit. I’ll take out the HX stuff. You want me to do it? I’ll do it. Um, and I’ll see what sounds like through this on whichever position you want it to hear it through you and hear more acoustic. You’ll hear more electric cars.
[00:25:47] I just don’t have time to get through all the effects again. That was the emperor’s compressor. Mark two. That was NTG to the distortion by fender. That was the dog man devices go fly a kite. Great pedals each and every once. One of them, um, this is the new QC Masonic player Telecaster from fender.
[00:26:12] So it is, um, a great, more affordable alternative to the American, uh, uh, Sonic series. Um, really, really, truly excited about this. I’ve been hoping so hard that they would do a more affordable version of the ecosystem. Sonic line. People may wonder, who is this for? Emily? Who is this? So that I say people with imagination, just kidding.
[00:26:40] I’m not going to raise you too hard, but like, I think that if you are jumping between, if you’re like, especially rhythm guitars who are jumping between acoustic and electric sounds, this is such a great choice. You don’t have to have multiple guitars on stage with you. You can bounce between this go and just with between the flick
[00:27:03] of a toggle. You can go between those different sounds and you can switch out a nine volt battery every approximately 22 hours. It’s great for practicing. Like this could be the one guitar that you need of that as a kind of playing that you do. I am really impressed with the build quality let’s check in on our tuning stability.
[00:27:29] Again, I tuned down a half step. Still need a little top off on that B string
[00:27:42] that’s Gina’s finding a little top off on D string,
[00:27:49] little top off.
[00:27:54] Just top offs, basically after 30 minutes of playing. So there you go. I have found this pretty easy to play. The, it feels more, definitely more on the acoustic side than the electric side in terms of feel, um, in terms of sound is kind of in between. It feels a little, it doesn’t feel nearly as big as the standard acoustic guitar that’s for damn sure.
[00:28:19] Uh, It doesn’t feel as big as the jazz master, but the jazz master has a bigger body. That’s kind of what I’m equating it to. I really hope that they do this in a Jazzmaster eventually, but for what it is, I think this is pretty fantastic. Um, that’s just me. I’m missing. The body sensor pick up real bad. I really, really love that.
[00:28:48] That was one of my favorite features of the American series. I’m not sure if it’s worth, worth the extra money just to have that, especially if you’re using like a Looper to go and get that kind of percussive newness. I think that was so neat. Um, I do miss that. I love having the nine volts. I love the fret.
[00:29:10] Nothing, nothing really missing in the frets for me. Um, yeah, I guess I’m having a lot of fun, big, thanks to fender for sending this to me. Um, I think it’s a great alternative for those kinds of players. I know I’ve seen like everyone from Julian baker to sting to Jeff Tweety play cause the Sonics. So like, yeah, there’s haters out there.
[00:29:39] There’s also, I think most all people have played them agree. They’re really neat. They’re, there’s a different, they’re different tool. You can’t, you can’t say the guitar industry, isn’t doing anything interesting. And NC fender do this. You can’t, you can’t see for, to do this and say the guitar industry isn’t doing anything interesting because like, this is.
[00:30:11] What do you want? That’s all I got to say, actually, it’s not. I got to say I put on my Stetson for this demo. The Stetson is the replacement Stetson for a sets. And I had, that was eaten by a dog named cowboy rest in peace cowboy. I hope you have every step. And having and, and corgi heaven to not on that.
[00:30:42] Isn’t mine. Well, thanks for watching. Thanks for understanding. Uh, check out my affiliate links. Um, Pedals guitars, cables, accessories.
