Auditioning a New Drive Section for My Main Pedalboard

I love love love my Chase Bliss Audio  Benson Amps   Automatone Preamp MKII….but I don’t really want to take it out to club and outdoor gigs just yet. So I’m taking it off the gig I’d been using for live streams and am auditioning a new drive section for my Sundae Crush pedal board!

[00:00:00] Emily: Welcome to get offset. My name is Emily and I have a gig coming up. Uh, it’s my first, uh, well I say that I cautiously and optimistic really have a gig coming up with my band Sunday crush on the 28th. It’s fun little bar in Ballard called Connor burn. I’m really excited. It’s one of my favorite places in Seattle to play, and I want to, uh, make a change to my pedal board and in advance of.

[00:00:32] Right now my, uh, basically entire drive section is the chase blessed Benson preamp, the automaton, a print mark two, which is a great pedal. I already have it programmed to go through a bunch of our songs, which is really a fantastic solution. I used it for a bunch of our live stream games. Um, during the quarantine, which was wonderful for those.

[00:01:01] Um, but we’re going to be playing like some outdoor gigs this, uh, late summer and fall. We’re going to be playing bars again. And I, you know, it’s a pretty valuable pedal. I don’t want to, uh, really risk playing it. Quite yet. Um, so I’m going to spend this video auditioning new dry pedals for that board. A bunch of these pedals are things that I’ve traditionally played, uh, with Sunday crash, including I have the Gail I’ll be, this is a smaller version of the Gale.

[00:01:36] I used to play the bigger one. Uh, I have the overhear, the Halberg. By electronic audio experiments. That’s an old friend. I also have some, some new friends. I have the awful waffle from alchemy audio. Uh, that’s based on the crowd, their hotcake, which is you’ll see currently on the board, have some limited edition friends, the blues by Caroline guitar and the, uh, big ear, Steve, this and Berkeley.

[00:02:09] Uh, also have some pedals that I like a lot. I have the diving bell by bookworm of facts, the false V2, but OB OB, N E I have a couple of fender drives. I have the MTG L a right here. I also the NTG tube distortion. I have a solo videos, demos of those two pedals, including one comparing the two. I also have some, uh, non drive pedals up here.

[00:02:42] Uh, most notably I have two filter pedals, um, that I may or may not get to. So, you know, I’m going to show you the pellet board. I’ve had a couple of requests, uh, to demo this pedal board. I’m probably won’t run through everything on this board. And in this video I might, uh, it’s kind of tricky to sort of get it on video.

[00:03:06] I am going to try, so, uh, no promises on that one, but. Where the pre-amp R two is I have some room to fit two to three pedals. Um, so I’m going to see how much, how much I can get in how much bang for my buck I can get in. So I might be able to get two drives. And if I, if I ended up auditioning like the diving bell, which is a dual drive or the fault V2, which is a dual drive, Or something like the MTG LA or the two distortion that has a boost and a distortion or the 50 50, uh, you know, I’ll have room to do something else.

[00:03:59] Maybe, maybe a compressor. Maybe I’ll be able to throw in like a filter pedal and do something interesting. Uh, you know, I have some other, I have a lot of functionality on the board right now. Um, the milkman. You know what, let me, let me just take you on a journey. All right. So this is what my board looks like race.

[00:04:18] Now I actually have not gigged with my board looking like this. I’m pretty sure my last gig had the Ernie bowl, um, tremolo pedal on it, but I did record a cover of Santa’s goals, lights out with this board. Um, And I really like it. I think it’s going to suit a lot of my needs. Uh, let’s talk about the signal chain here.

[00:04:44] I have the Ernie ball, VP junior tuner going into Carlo hotcake, uh, which I will. Uh, even if I keep a hotcake style pedal, I’m going to put the off of waffle on, in place of that. Um, so obviously you can see there’s a lot of space there when it’s going to be lost face. When I, um, moved the preempt Martu off the board, that’s going into the somersault, which is going into the Enzo, which is going to the milkman, which has both tremolo and reverb.

[00:05:12] And I am going to open it. The milkman and make sure that, uh, the reverb is set to spring right now it’s set to plate and I would prefer a spring setting on it. The Enzo has, uh, some presets on there has a pretty normal. Um, pads, synth sound. It has a delay setting I use, and it has a kind of ring mud synth sound.

[00:05:38] And that’s what I have going for it right now. So as you can see, I had quite a lot to work with there. Um, In terms of space. Uh, so what I’m going to do now is I am going to get that hooked up, hope everything still pretty much works, uh, get the camera situated. Um, you know, I don’t think I’m going to have the capability to do a three camera rig, uh, with this.

[00:06:08] So I’m going to have, uh, the camera focused on just so that you understand I’m going to have cables running, um, through the volume. So I’m going to have the guitar. It’s going to go through the volume pedal tuner. And that’s going to go through, let me think about this. No, I’m going to bypass the volume Pell tuner.

[00:06:31] I’m going to send the drive section over to my desk. I’m going have my overhead camera with my new drive section. I am going to kind of have to eyeball the space. Um, when I had to take that into account, and then I’m going to have a run going, I’m going to send that into the somersault and then the summer.

[00:06:52] So I was going to go into the end zone. The end zone is going to go into the milkman, the amp, the amp is going to use the cab SIM and it is going to go. Directly into my audio interface. I’m going to monitor that with my ultimate ears reference remastered, but I paid for, so this is obviously going to have a mix of content, uh, products that I paid for, and that were sent to me for demo.

[00:07:17] None of these, nothing that I’m doing in this demo, uh, was. Nobody asked me to include any of these products in the demo. I’m just doing this for me. So it’s not, this is not like an ad. It’s just like, this is just going to have a mix of things that I paid for and were provided to me. So please keep that in mind.

[00:07:36] This is just me with, uh, things that I enjoy. Um, and I hope you enjoy the content of this video. Oh, right. I’m set up. And I have picked my, uh, weird hybrid Mustang, Bronco caster. If you haven’t watched the video, I bought this neck and body for about $25. Uh, put some Lawler, uh, two of their triple shots and not Lawler.

[00:08:07] I’m sorry, Lamberton two, their triple shots. And so these are basically strapped single coil. Uh, wiring harness from Gunn street, uh, just to, to knobs a headline around, uh, uh, faction, a hard tail fun sticker that says, revenge keeps you sharp. I picked this guitar because this is the last guitar played for a Sunday crush show.

[00:08:34] And I thought it would be a fun choice. So I have my. Uh, that’s basically all that’s on right now. I thought it’d be fun to start with a two, two gales and see how that would sound the is the first drive pedal I really started using and Sunday crush shows. So let’s see that Cara is in fact going, uh, let’s just play through it a little bit and kind of see how it sounds.

[00:10:20] Let’s see, I can see a little more lower gain going on. At least one of these scales, uh, here as, uh, uh, you know, let me, let me try get something low, low gain going on this one, perhaps, uh, with the let’s let’s get the tone over here. The tone knob on the gales, more like a girth knob.

[00:10:54] washing my levels there. Sorry for the clipping.

[00:11:23] because I would like to think that’s kind of like more always on, I run the milkman pretty clean

[00:11:38] Let’s see if I can get a sound there.

[00:12:07] here’s my simple delay.

[00:12:18] There’s my.

[00:12:37] okay. So that works with that.

[00:13:10] I just never thought about for Sunday crushed the Gale being like that always on pedal, but I have often thought of that being as. That that solo

[00:13:41] So I’m going to keep the Gail and. For a beefing up some solos, but I’m going to, I’m going to now swap it out for another set of panels. I think five minutes is long enough to dedicate, uh, to, to, to, to gales. So now I have with the Gale, uh, the awful waffle by alchemy audio, uh, this is like the crowd hotcake, which is what I had previously been using.

[00:14:06] Some good sounds even better. Sounds I should say of the chase bliss, automaton a preemt mark too. So let’s I hear it. Oh, what am I doing wrong? I need to turn the volume of my guitar.

[00:15:06] Every time I play this pedal, I really just adore it. Uh, so let’s maybe

[00:15:41] I do stickers. Maybe get the shape over there.

[00:15:52] Part of that clip.

[00:17:25] I mean, there’s definitely a little bit of something boosting it in there, but I. A lot.

[00:18:05] I mean, Miguel did definitely kick it, helped me kick in and get a lot more oomph, but,

[00:18:16] but it does pop in with quite a bit more. No. That I would like. So let me, let me play around with another pedal and see, and see you and see where it kind of get with it. So now I have, uh, the alchemy audio off waffle. Let me see if I can get that light. Just kind of less aggressive on it. Sorry. It’s just, this is such a shiny pedal that it’s really hard to.

[00:18:39] Light. Uh, so,

[00:18:55] so if I’m kind of settling on the awful waffle being my, like,

[00:19:07] Like, I’m kind of leaning towards

[00:19:15] like from that kind of sound.

[00:19:36] Sure. Just because it’s so responsive. Okay. Maybe I should learn my notes.

[00:20:18] maybe, maybe this will be.

[00:20:52] Relearn the solos

[00:22:20] I tell you what I need to do to set up on this guitar, because I need to raise a C string. It is like very close to a fried pork.

[00:23:35] completely. I’m going to side by side to dual drive petals. All right. Now we have two dual drive pedals by to a smaller company. Is that I like a lot. We have the diving bells by bookworm affects and we have the fault by old blood noise endeavors. Um, they both have to gain stages. Oops. Let’s make sure that’s all in focus again.

[00:24:01] Shiny pedals, make it harder to light them. The fault has, uh, the, the faders and, uh, the gain to just has that one control, uh, from what I remember. There’s a boost. There’s a lot more controls on the fault. Uh, the, um, diving bells, it’s just a little more bare bones. This is the one you Q a two volume distortion bias.

[00:24:29] Let’s start with the, uh, diving bells. It’s been a while since I played both of these. So behind.

[00:24:55] overdrive on this.

[00:25:02] A second ago.

[00:26:41] Pretty much immediately. I feel like that’s kind of perfect for what I was looking for and a very simple to use pedal. There’s no noise switching over from, uh, one, the first gain station the second.

[00:26:58] So that was really immediately nice. And if I put the awful waffle before that, I’m going to get even more, uh, possibilities, just like a nice little extra overdrive, uh, on this white.

[00:27:39] I probably still put the awful, awful in the mix.

[00:27:48] maybe a compressor or a filter pedal would, would fit on the board too. Pretty seamlessly there. Um, probably we’ll end up getting a, putting a rubber pedal on there too, to be honest. All right. Uh, let’s try out the fault next.

[00:30:09] That. I love the fault. I don’t think it’s particularly right for what I’m looking to do. Right now, I think the dieting Bell’s the winner there. Um, so I think right now the front runner is the diving bell. On the second half of this video, I am going to now try just a few more things. Uh, I think I’m kind of hitting my emotional limit with dirt pedals.

[00:30:34] So I’m just going to try a couple more dirt pedals. Um, and then I’m going to try out a compressor, uh, And some filter pedals and see if we can get a little more fun going with these songs. Stay tuned. I gotta say this guitar staying in pretty good tune, despite that it was literally detuned for a whole year or like 18 months.

[00:31:02] Oops. So now I have the Halber with the diving bells here. The Halbert is another, uh, original. Uh, for my Sunday crushed bored us. Let’s get into it.

[00:31:14] God damn at this pedal. Sounds so good.

[00:33:52] It’s just a guitar and he’s a string so badly.

[00:34:07] that’s just a nice gentle kind of like adding a little bit of warmth and grant.

[00:34:28] It actually gets pretty close to my ear.

[00:35:31] This might be the combo. I think the winning combo is going to be the, how the Halberd going in to the diving bells by bookworm. I think that’s going to give me the most bang for my buck, but I’m Porky pig. I’m the most bang for my buck. Um, so a lot. Yeah. Now I’m going to try. Uh, the dustbin and the scientist in front of those.

[00:35:57] And, uh, see if I can have a little bit of more, extra fun, just an extra fun, uh, with some existing Sunday crush parts, um, just on my own. And, um, maybe I’ll bring it into practice tomorrow and see what my band mates think stick around. So for this experiment, I’m just leaving the Halberd plugged in, uh, Because I wouldn’t be using this pedal with a lot of dirt anyway.

[00:36:28] Um, yeah. Not, not my style.

[00:37:13] Um,

[00:38:07] So, um, the way I really think I want to use this as I usually, I prefer envelope filters right now, my singer has my flunk better. So, uh, I am going to just plan on using this and the envelope filter mode. I’m just going to kind of play with the filter novel bit, that kind of limits the range of the filter.

[00:38:28] Um,

[00:38:36] Well, I go in there.

[00:39:49] And.

[00:40:02] Um,

[00:40:23] I think that I think that that is going to work for Sunday garage.

[00:40:30] Obviously not every song, but

[00:40:50] Freezing and will be kind of cool for dudes being guys.

[00:41:08] Um, yeah. Well, thank you for watching this, this really fun experiment with me. I feel pretty happy with some of the stuff I’ve come up with. I feel better about not taking an extremely expensive pedal onstage to an Irish, uh, bar in Ballard and then onstage and outdoor club in October, a barbecue restaurant on October.

[00:41:33] Um, but yeah, if you’re in Seattle, please come see us. It’s a Matt, obviously there’s a mass or mask ordinance, so please be cool. Um, but we’re really excited to be playing in front of people again. Um, Well anyway, uh, please like comment, subscribe love. Thanks for watching. Thanks for understanding until next time.

[00:41:52] My name is Emily goodbye. E oh, that was.
