Demonic Machines The Dragonaut Preamp Overdrive Demo and Review

The Dragonaut by Demonic Machines calls itself a Preamp / Overdrive but it’s a helluva lot more interesting than that. This pedal can take you from tame but versatile and highly shapeable overdrive sounds to pure gnar. Check out their work: http://demonicmachines.com/ and https://linktr.ee/demonicmachines

[00:00:00] Emily: Welcome to get off set. My name is Emily and I’m here today with the demonic machines, dragon on it is listed on the preamp section of their website, but I think it gets a lot, a lot, a lot gnarlier than that. Uh, that’s why I’m wearing my famous for fuck’s sake. Sure. That I’m want to straighten out a little bit.

[00:00:23] Cause I. Look like a mess. I feel like a mess. I looked like one, two, great job. Strong start. Uh, I will be demoing this cool has helped pedal through the stream and Iridium, uh, starting with my paranormal series school choir, supersonic. I have Laura lovely. Imperial’s in there. I may split the humbuckers and to single coils at any moments, you’ll be surprised.

[00:00:55] No, I will tell you, I will tell you when that happens, let’s discuss the controls of this really cool. Um, firstly, I want to tell you, these are designed, uh, by a single person is their name is lucky. Uh, it’s a two person shop, uh, lucky is helped by a person named Angie and, uh, their dog Rocco. Or is there a dog?

[00:01:19] I don’t know whose dog Rocco is, but Rocco looks cute. I think Rocco is a great dog name. I watch a lot of Rocko’s modern life growing up. I feel very, very. Close to that name. I think it’s a cute name. And also in the picture on the website, like he is wearing maybe the best earrings I’ve ever seen in my life.

[00:01:37] They’re like little, uh, little accent. They’re really cute. Uh, yeah, but let’s talk about the puddle. We got very simply volume. We have game, we have mass, which is a totally similar, it’s kind of like a big Muff, dual filter tone control, uh, pretty cool. And then they have just kind of a normal, uh, tone control as more like a presence and presence has always been described to me.

[00:02:03] How, whether or not you feel like you’re in front of, or behind, uh, the speaker. Uh, so it’s pretty cool. There’s a tongue bypass control that it gives you full. Like saturation’s pretty neat. And then there’s a stack, which, uh, it says it allows you to bypass the second amplifier in the circuit for sound closer to overdrive.

[00:02:24] It’s a pretty, pretty sick, pretty sick sound. I like it a lot. I’m a pretty, I really, I talked about this before. I really liked the packaging. Um, the, it came with this like cute little QR code. It came with these super cute stickers. Uh, the box, there was a lot of love in the box. Like I just really am a sucker for good packaging.

[00:02:47] Let me just drop the volume on this guy for a second. I don’t want you to see my address, but you can see on the side. Some cool. Some really, uh, nice just hand printed sort of stuff inside. Even had some fun. Love. So I just really love an unboxing experience. I just feel like if you’re taking the time to do that, um, it means you care about, you know, how somebody feels, how somebody feels like the moment they, they dig into what you’re giving them.

[00:03:24] So I really love that. That’s I hope they do that for everybody, but yeah, let’s, uh, let’s get to it. I’m going to start with the game. I’m going to start with the tone toggle up, uh, start with mass and tone in the middle of the stack will not be on. Cause I think that’s a really fun to do later. Let’s get to it.

[00:03:44] Clean tone, turn volume back up.

[00:03:55] It’s supposed to be a liner.

[00:04:04] Two sets. What rules are

[00:04:12] maybe just a scourge of volume compensation there with the gain. So low

[00:05:00] So already on low gain, we’re working with quite an array of tunnel characteristics. So this is already, uh, already quite a lot of fun to play around with. I want to get the gain up there too. Right?

[00:06:05] I can’t believe I remember how to play that.

[00:06:18] maybe it’s more of a.

[00:06:28] Maybe I need to come and help something.

[00:07:22] You can get really aggressive in there.

[00:07:28] that will cut through a mix.

[00:07:43] Practice what you’re going to play in the fucking song. Emily

[00:08:01] I really like having to both of these knobs, it really helps you, um, get, find that sweet spot because one just having one or the other, I feel like it’d be really easy to just edge a hair into a territory. You don’t really want to live in, whether that’s too mellow or too harsh, having them both helps you find that balance.

[00:08:22] You know, that Zen that you really want to have. Oh, when you’re playing

[00:08:36] yeah, it sounds on a single coil on the neck.

[00:08:47] oh, going back to a humbucker, single coil.

[00:09:01] I’m Bucher.

[00:09:22] this is wired backwards. If you weren’t looking at the toggle.

[00:09:45] let’s crank that gain. That’s what you’ve been waiting for. And we’ll turn down the volume.

[00:10:05] someone already always comments Polaris. When I do that or. Makes me happy.

[00:11:03] I’m going to pass. I have a saw, I have a gig with Sunday crush at the end of the month. I need to relearn the Sunday crush songs.

[00:12:07] all right. I’m going to crank the gain back a little bit and we’re going to. Flip this tone bypass.

[00:12:16] So happens on turn bypass.

[00:12:39] this gives you a totally saturated signal.

[00:12:49] actually, that’s two in really nicely. So that’s all right.

[00:12:57] oh, you know, I never actually put.

[00:13:02] Never actually put the bridge pickup in a single glass. Sorry. I forgot. I forgot.

[00:13:18] sorry for that, then.

[00:13:33] nice.

[00:13:40] I’m going to turn that back on and let’s get into the stack because we are 14 minutes into this video.

[00:14:09] holy shit.

[00:16:10] yeah.

[00:17:54] I gotta cock cock. I call him uncle. Oh man.

[00:18:04] There’s a lot of sounds in that. There’s a lot of sounds in that federal, whether you. Like just some traditional sounding distortion. There was some light overdrive in there. I heard there was some crazy, crazy, crazy filtered kind of fuzz sounds in there. I heard that stuff, man. Great job. Great job. Lucky you did you then get.

[00:18:31] Yeah, but that’s, that’s the dragon nut. Bye. Bye. Demonic machines, please check it out. I’ll drop a link up to where you can buy these pedals. Um, yes. Uh, that’s all I it’s all I got to say about it. Thank you. Uh, I’ve said this in exchange for, for this, uh, demo video, you probably saw the, this is a notification.

[00:18:58] When you, when you clicked on the video. Apparently that’s not enough for the FAA. I don’t know. I don’t know it hasn’t FCC. I don’t know. I don’t know. Well, anyway, thanks for watching. Thanks for understanding, please like comment, subscribe below until next time. My name is Emily goodbye.
