DistroKid Lyrics and Other Special Features

Welcome to get offset. My name is Emily and I’m here with another video, a sponsored by DistroKid. This your kid makes it easy and affordable to upload your music to the internet that include Spotify, title, Apple music, iTunes, Google play, um, tick tock. You can put. You can then find your music and like the Instagram stories and put them in Instagram stories.

[00:00:30] And it has a lot of really cool stuff, but the show can only cost 20 bucks a year. And if you want to save 7% on your first year and support this podcast, I mean a YouTube channel I’m in podcast mode right now. Um, if you want to support the YouTube channel, you can use our DistroKid referral. Link that’s in the video description and, uh, it’ll save you 7% on your first year.

[00:00:59] So today I’m going to pull up district kid and I’m going to show you some of the really cool all bonus features that come with district, but I’m also probably going to show you a little bit of, um, their stats dashboard and how you can monitor, uh, your music’s performance through. DistroKid, um, within days of uploading music.

[00:01:24] So, uh, let’s get to it. So this is my district kid dashboard. I have three, three things. I have two EPS and a single, you watched me upload self objectification with no remorse. And then I had the old growth single here. So let’s just click. This is something that I uploaded. I scheduled this out, uh, to upload, um, on October 2nd.

[00:01:54] So that went really smoothly. Everything happened. Exactly. It was, as it was supposed to, I got a bunch of emails that day, uh, confirming that my stuff was in the store, but let’s, uh, and again, you can see the stores here, so let’s, um, Well kind of mess around with this. Let’s start with sync to lyrics and sync lyrics are cool.

[00:02:20] Um, everyone likes to learn lyrics of the songs, I think. Um, but it’s, it enables things like, um, if you add a song to an Instagram story, sometimes there are lyrics with it. This is one of the ways you can do that. And this is the way you do that with DistroKid. So, um, I. Have already typed in lyrics for this.

[00:02:45] I don’t know if I did it. I don’t think I did it actually with the, um, alright. Let’s let’s let’s read this, this show kit delivers your sync lyrics fast to Instagram and other places. And is the only distributor that does that. But Instagram is slow sometimes. Yada yada, yada, love you DistroKid. Thank you.

[00:03:06] So I typed out my lyrics at some point. And, um, it says to hold your space. So I just listened to the whole song, hold the space bar down. When you hear it at the beginning of a line released the space bar where the lyric has finished. So this might take a couple tries. So we’re going to click play to begin.

[00:06:36] Easy.

[00:06:44] Nice. That was easy. You know, you have to listen to the song in real time. That’s not so bad. Uh, yeah, so let’s go back to my music and see, uh, what else we have here with old. There are a couple of things that are just on the page when you, when you build it. And one of them is busy and one of them is Marcel.

[00:07:08] Let’s look at Visy and see what that is. That’s my internet. This is a music video generator. Get videos to post on Instagram. You take talk Facebook and more it’s made by district kids. So let’s, uh, let’s get started. So we have to choose a template. Oh, wow. Okay. So there’s a couple. Let’s see, what does, what looks like it would be appropriate for my mass song.

[00:07:42] That’s nice. Let’s go with. Fantasy let’s do so. It is old gross as the file. Yes. Feature it. Let’s do. Oh, these are not free. Oh, so they’re nine bucks.

[00:08:17] You get a discount. If you get more, if you can evolve, but let’s just see what it looks like.

[00:08:33] the way it looks so you can check about, I just didn’t like the way it looked. I don’t really know if there’s going to be any benefit for me personally, for doing this. So this is

[00:08:59] Alright. Alright. That’s fair. That’s fair. It’s a service. Um, I am going to let’s see, I don’t want that. I don’t. I think me maybe square now. I’m not gonna do it.

[00:09:23] See if Marcel is free. I don’t know. Oh God. Oh yeah. It’s free more sells the free one. I got, I got it. A little backwards. Let’s go with old growth.

[00:09:39] No. I want to do an alpha angel for saw Lynn grad will be a good one.

[00:09:47] Let’s look, let’s see what it looks like two minutes.

[00:09:55] So now that’s center my videos.

[00:10:00] Now let’s see what this is. This is Dave. District kids, music and analysis. AI bot. Dave is listening to my track. Let me tell you about old growth by Emily Harris. Three minutes, 53 seconds song it’s in the key of G major. That’s actually true. Yes, that’s true. Ooh, I really should have made mix this louder.

[00:10:25] Huh? Uh, the track is not acoustic. Track is not good for dancing. This is fair. It’s not instrumental, but there’s a lot of instrument. It’s mellow. It. Doesn’t contain talking.

[00:10:43] Bye. Be sad and depressed or angry.

[00:10:50] Oh, that’s pretty funny. I won’t do that for another song now. Let’s see. Um, let’s go with linen grad on elephant angel fish, three minutes and six seconds. It is the key of C major. This is more appropriately mixed and master because I actually paid for someone to mix the master. It. Checks actually, this track is more acoustic than old growth.

[00:11:18] Good for dancing. Uh, it’s energetic. It was definitely recorded in a studio. Happy cheerful. And, or you Foric, that’s kind of fun. All right. Now let’s um, I would like to maybe see what fixer does, what needs fixing. Someone else’s music is on my page on, um, I think it’s Spotify. Oh no. I still need to submit that through Spotify for artists.

[00:11:51] Yes. And I do have that set up. All right. Let me look at my title. I don’t know if this is gonna actually work. If you don’t have time, will I really recommend title over Spotify? Um, artists get paid a lot better on title, like a lot better. Um, yes. So yeah, there is someone who is another Emily Harris. Uh, she’s the one her music on my page.

[00:12:23] Um, so that’s my title page. I would like this music removed from my title page. Sorry, other Emily Harris, but we don’t, neither of us wants this.

[00:12:40] And then there’s like this down here, which is something that’s not me. Oh boy. I would love for the song credits to actually be me, but none of them are wouldn’t that be neat? Um, so that’s actually me actually, me. Not me, not me, not me, not me. I’m going to just focus on those big ones right there. Um, and then I’ll go back and four weeks.

[00:13:13] So it’s really easy to remove someone from your page. Um, that’s, you know, yeah. Easy, uh, credits and lighter notes. So I did everything on these. I did everything on this, but I did get help with like Leningrad and living in Moscow and everything from elephant angel fish. Um, it was produced. Uh, let’s see.

[00:13:51] This is producer,

[00:13:59] uh, see another musician on this song. I think, uh, on some of the guitar was Aaron boy. I really need to, uh, Look this up.

[00:14:19] Um, so that’s actually some, I, you know, most stores don’t really have this, but title does. And that’s another reason I think title is a, uh, superior song streaming platform. Uh, Mike Macario was my drummer, so let’s go with drums. Thank you, Mike. Uh, Ben Benjamin Jones on bass.

[00:14:56] Did the violin was Michael Hardesty. I actually forgot that he played violin.

[00:15:09] I guess the song has violin. Cello by dweller.

[00:15:20] Um,

[00:15:25] well, I didn’t realize, I forgot that. Um, my producer had Dan Fernandez rerecord some of my acoustic guitar and that actually makes me really mad and mad again. It’s nice to be mad. A piano in Oregon. I got about that. Nice.

[00:15:56] Why is, yeah, so keyboards in here, but piano is not. So I guess I might just not reading all this keyboard and, uh, organ, that’s gotta be fun. Uh, just so I can submit these two, I’m going to ask that’s pretty bad. I shouldn’t, uh, um, and I don’t know who, who mastered this, so sorry. Mmm. Dining crowds. So that’s another thing you can do that I highly recommend.

[00:16:35] Um, Let’s look at this now let’s look at my little Yoda Leningrad.

[00:17:16] jeez, that’s pretty cute. I like that. Um, let’s see what else we have the wheel of playlist. I’m going to try with old growth connect with Spotify. Everybody loves getting on playlist. All right. All right. All right. Ooh, that is far down. That playlist never gonna, Oh, further worse. They tease you with those little numbers.

[00:17:56] Nice play again tomorrow. I mean, zero people will hear that. That’s cool. That’s fine. Um, let’s see what else that th th uh, let’s look at. Let’s see what hyper follow is. Oh yeah. This is important. So this is a page that district kid releases for every single thing that you. Th th they’ll make it for you and you can see views saved, et cetera.

[00:18:29] Let’s look. All right. So they want you to put into the bio section, but let’s see what that page looks like. I really wish that I could, um, I don’t know if there’s a way for me to, Oh yeah, you can customize it up here. Let me just move. The thing where I see myself, I can edit this page so you can move things around.

[00:19:01] Uh, I don’t know what media net is. I’d rather this be title. My parents use Deezer and I heart radio. So I’ll use that. Does anybody use.

[00:19:16] Huh? Uh, let’s go with band camp probably second. Um, I heard radio. Okay. Google play. You can pick any of your stores here. Um, and yeah, I think that’s good. Social media link so I can add my Twitter. Which is twitter.com/emily on guitar and, uh, save the change and look, now it’s first buy my stuff and then it’s stream my stuff.

[00:19:58] I prefer that. Um, yeah. Neat. So, yeah, you can edit that page. Um, the colors are kind of automatically generated. I just have the one social link there, so then I could, um, paste this in my Instagram bio, drop it in an email or something and that’s pretty neat. Yeah, I like that a lot. Um, and then what else do I want to look at?

[00:20:27] Volt unlimited backups of your music. And this is important. Like I think that we’ve all, a lot of us have kept her the music somewhere and then just complete lost it. I’ve had, I cannot tell you how many times I have had to make my music free on band camp for a day. So I can go in and re download the MP3s on a new computer.

[00:20:47] And it’s embarrassing to have to do that. Uh, let’s see if there’s any other streaming service goodies. I don’t have a Twitch. Um, I don’t have an official YouTube artist channel. Um, so I guess I can do that. Um, I do not have a YouTube channel that I know of. I don’t think there is a YouTube channel for Emily Harris.

[00:21:23] Well, I know that there is one, but it’s not, it’s not always me. Um, so there’s an Emily Harris. She’s a fashion and lifestyle blogger. Uh, this was, um, a gospel singer whose name was Emily Harris. Um, is Emmy Lou Harris.

[00:21:44] There there’s my friends pick Friday. That was fun. This is the other Emily Harris.

[00:21:52] And, uh, then it’s just some stuff for me that looks actually really fun. Um, so yeah, I don’t have a YouTube channel.

[00:22:11] Uh, so I don’t really know. So I’d have to create it.

[00:22:18] Let’s just see what this looks like.

[00:22:22] Yeah. I’m not going to do that. Um, so you would have to create a YouTube channel dedicated to your music. Um, specifically you can’t be with other people. Um, it’s ineligible to be an official artist channel, so I would need to create my own. And if this was for my band Sunday crush, we have, we do have our own YouTube channel.

[00:22:43] So that would be easy to do. Let’s look at, uh, more streaming service goodies.

[00:22:53] Uh, we have an allowed list.

[00:22:58] There is.

[00:23:06] So unless it’s an, a public video that has an active claim or an ad on it, um, there’s, they’re just not gonna do anything. Uh, so YouTube money from district kid. I had done that. I think, uh, actually, I don’t know if I’ve done that. I don’t really care very much about that. Uh, at this moment in my. My personal release career.

[00:23:33] So I’m not going to screw around with that one too much, but let’s look, I did not know there was an Apple actually. I’m probably on the Apple music for artists, um, there. Right. Um, and there, it connects me to, I’m not, Oh gosh. So annoying.

[00:23:55] Oh my goodness. I’m going to ask the blur a bunch of stuff in this video. Okay.

[00:24:13] Isn’t it annoying how you go to like say remember me every time it never seems to work. Yes, these are me. Yeah.

[00:24:25] Yay. No, no, I do. So that’s a really old picture. Maybe I can edit my profile, uh, blah, blah, blah. Oh yeah. I get a weekly, weekly email about that kind of crap. Uh, I’m always surprised every once in a while I get Shazammed and it just shocks me, like I am shocked. When I get Shazammed it’s truly amazing. Let’s zoom out a little bit.

[00:25:03] Yes. Keep lips eyebrows below that line, lips above the other line. Uh, I think that’s okay. Lips above that line of the lessor. So that’s my face. Cool. I feel like I should be like explain to you what the Apple music thing is for. That might be for another day. So I’ve had six plays. It’s I don’t really know how, Oh, the past four weeks let’s do, um, lifetime for Y just to make my numbers up more impressive.

[00:25:38] They’re not gonna look impressive. Um, so in the past four weeks I’ve had six plays. One listener. There we go. This is Apple music, not iTunes. So Apple music is newer. That’s a general yes. Generally three song purchases have not seen any of that money in 25, 25 shins dams. So in January, one of my songs had a hundred plus, Oh, Ooh.

[00:26:04] Look at this. Look at this. Get my, my regional country. Listens top country or region is Germany. That’s pretty weird. Let’s look at my shoes. AMS.

[00:26:25] I wish Sam three times and one day by who, who Shazaming me, I guess people hear Leningrad and like some way, or they’re like, I got to know what that song is. Old growth got Shizam three times weird, um, places. So you can see your countries and regions. I have more play I 135 plays lifetime in Germany and only 52 in the later Taz uni.

[00:26:59] Yeah. Thank you to my German fans. I love you, Brasil. Cool. Let’s get back to, um, let’s get back to DistroKid. Yeah. So let’s go to stats cause I wanted to show you their stats. So Spotify artists is always going to have more, I’ll do a separate video on Spotify artists. Um, so I have a label, a calendar, just why I can select so many artists.

[00:27:29] Oh, I don’t want to actually go to that. I already have, um, This set up. So in the past seven days, I’ve had 85 Spotify listens. Obviously I’m doing better on Spotify than Apple music a last year 60. Uh, yeah. So this is the same, because this is about the same amount of time the music’s been on, um, weekly. I had a hundred listens one week and weirdly zero night.

[00:27:54] Yeah. Someone must have been really excited to see my music. Jeez. You are the people that listen to my music 50 times. Okay. Okay. Like, are you, are you okay? I’ll worry about ya. You can see, and you can, um, come constrict to certain days or you can stretch to the full, full period of time. You think you can really get in on any amount.

[00:28:23] Like you can move these guys around. You can zoom out to see the whole thing. Um, and that’s what that looks like on Spotify, iTunes and Amazon is probably not going to show anything. I don’t sell a lot and I don’t have most of my music on Amazon or I shouldn’t. Um, and then Apple music, we just, we just came from there.

[00:28:46] Yeah. So that’s, um, that’s the, just kind of, of what this looks like. And, uh, if we go to bank, there’s not going to be anything in bank. Because money takes two to three months as it says. Um, and I have not, it’s been like one or two months show, tiny fractions. I’m going to need to show the tiny fractions when I actually do see the things.

[00:29:16] So I’m excited to show you what the money looks like when the money happens. If you want to help the money happen. Once again, here is the music. Uh, if you, if you want to stream it, if you want to buy it, that’s really cool. Um, you would also be contributing to the next video about this joke head. So, um, that’s, that’s a real quick look.

[00:29:41] I mean, I don’t know how quick that was. That seems like it might’ve been going on for a minute. Um, Thank you so much for watching this. I hope that I got to show you some of the cool features that that distro kit has. Um, many of them are free. I can understand why they would charge $9 for the more visual sort of basic video thing.

[00:30:03] Um, that’s actually still seems really, really cheap for what it is. I think that’s a fine another service like that line. That was good. I mean, I think, and it has like the little, some of them have like the little. Little gauges that show when there’s more volume, uh, happening, uh, which, you know, I’m sure there are other services.

[00:30:23] If you have, other than other service you’d like to do for those premade videos that cost less than nine bucks a video. Um, yeah, let us know in the comments. That’d be cool. And once again, if you want to try district kid, you can save 7% on your first year. Uh, if you use the link in the video description, so please check that out.

[00:30:41] It does support this channel. Um, Would really love to keep being able to make videos like this. Once again, this video was answered by the stroke head. Uh, so big, thanks to the stroke kid for supporting get off set, both the podcast and the YouTube channel. Uh, it means a lot to us. I have a lot of people that I know, friends, personal friends who work at DistroKid.

[00:31:06] So it’s really, uh, really cool to see, and I know that they’re supporting. Uh, some of the artists in Seattle, especially right by hiring, which is cool and making it easy to get your money. I mean, I’ve talked about this before. My music had previously all been online via, via tune core, which cost $50 a year instead of 20 bucks a year.

[00:31:29] So that’s a huge, huge difference. It means I will actually be able to pockets some of the money I make each year from streaming instead of just putting it right back into, um, my, my tune core subscription. So that’s, I’m, I’m pretty, I’m pretty happy about that. It’s not a lot of money, but you know, it’s, it’s nice to be able to get anything, anything from your music, from the streaming, especially when you’re not pushing it ever.

[00:31:54] Like I don’t. Push it ever. Um, but yeah, it’s really nice to see. So if there are any other videos that you all have, um, about things like the music business in general, uh, distribution, uh, performing rights organizations, if you have any things that you would like to see a video on this in the future, let me know.

[00:32:15] I. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this on the podcast. I did study music business in college. I have a pretty strong working knowledge of it. I’ve worked in and out of the music and mostly in the music industry since college, a lot of that circulating and marketing for live events, like concerts and sporting events, but I’ve helped other bands.

[00:32:34] Uh, and I’m in a band and I’ve performed music and I’m on a pro, uh, C SAC and have worked kind of. With labels to some extent. Yeah. So I have a bit of a working knowledge of things I’m happy to. I really would love to know what you all would like to know kind of about music distribution. Um, see if we can get some answers for you.

[00:32:57] Uh, anything I can. Research and advances cool. But, uh, yeah, that’s enough of me. Yapping. If you have things you want to buy on reverb.com, please use the link in the video description. We get 1% cash back on that, and it costs you zero extra dollars, please. Like comment, subscribe, hit the DistroKid link once again.

[00:33:14] Thanks for watching. Thanks for understanding. My name is Emily goodbye.
