Tube Distortion Shootout Fender MTG Tube Distortion vs MTG LA Tube Distortion
Hey, I’m Emily from get offset and I’m here today with two pedals, technically three. I have the MTG distortion by fender, the LA version of the MTG distortion by fender and the MTG tube distortion. It’s confusing. These are both tube distortions. They have a very similar layout. They have. Uh, very similar controls.
[00:00:29] There’s only one difference in the controls. They both have a boost. The boost has the same controls. Let’s talk about the difference and the controls. And the only one that you can see before hearing it is that the LA has a tone knob that sweeps from low, basically the trouble. And bass and treble, uh, cuts or boosts and the MTG tube distortion doesn’t have a master toe knob.
[00:01:02] It has treble middle base cut and boosts. They both have the tight, which tightens up, uh, what can be kind of a flubby low end on some guitars. I also have, uh, the switch glitch. By red nose. Yeah. Red noise. Gosh, red noise effects switch glitch. And that’s going to be my switcher today. So I have it on the, or it’s going to go between these two guys.
[00:01:33] You get a little bit of a sound there, kind of an avoidable, uh, and I’m not gonna really screw out with the boost too much on these they’re the same booth circuit is from what I can tell. So let’s get these both on,
[00:01:53] right? So that’s clearly working and, um, Get the gain down, get everything kind of in the same position and we’ll get started. Alright. Alright. I’m here with my Squire supersonic from the paranormal series and I am a stream Iridium as my aunt today. Round B gain at about drive at about nine level.
[00:02:22] Probably gonna have to turn that up.
[00:02:26] Tuning is caring.
[00:02:31] Alright, so I’m going to keep this on the middle position with, uh, both humbuckers. So it’ll be a lot more like the stock sound of the supersonic. If you want to hear how that, how both of these pedals sound, uh, with the coil split on the bridge on the nag editor, I did some pretty in depth videos of them separately.
[00:02:53] So, uh, those are in the video description. Please check them out. Yeah, let’s do a clean sound just for fun.
[00:03:12] alright, so we are on the, yep. I’m just making sure my order is correct. So let’s start
[00:03:43] so the LA has more volume at that lowest gain stage. They’re both at the same. They’re both at the same volume, same gain.
[00:03:54] That’s the tube
[00:03:59] and that’s the LA so already very, very different let’s I’m on that. I’m going to turn the game to about nine o’clock on both of these now.
[00:04:23] that was the tube, the MTG. And this is the a LA
[00:04:39] So there’s already clearly some difference in the tone shaping on these guys.
[00:05:01] nice. So yeah, different. They sound different. I imagine that they look the same and they sound different. I’m going to turn the tide up a lot more, uh, to like three o’clock on both of these. Cause the gain is low
[00:05:58] I’d also say that the LA has more distortion at that. Range. So I’m just gonna crank it all the way up to about three o’clock on both of these
[00:06:34] I’m going to turn the tone up on the LA, just to see if that. It gets a little bit closer to the tone on that.
[00:07:22] um, even with the tone all the way up. The NTG is there? Well, I guess that’s
[00:07:33] yeah. Even with the tone all the way up the LA is darker. Um, so let’s try with the tone controls boosting the trouble.
[00:08:05] that was a little bit closer, by the way. I’m going to have to cut the mids.
[00:08:37] So a lot closer, but it’s still pretty noticeably different let’s uh, so we have the middle there. I think we’ve determined is a good spot for it. Let’s like, obviously I think this is going to just generally be able to get brighter.
[00:09:16] let’s just try with everything crying. Cause I don’t want this video to be, I don’t want it to be that long. I think it’s pretty obvious. How different these two pedals are, but, uh, yeah, let’s have some fun.
[00:10:36] uh,
[00:11:27] Wow. All right. I think that we can safely say that these are two very unique distortion pedals. Uh, yes. There both two driven. Yes. They have the same chassis. Yes. They have the same knobs. They both light up if, for like, if you don’t like that, you can turn that off. I like that. Um, they both have booths.
[00:11:51] They have very similar controls. Um, I’d say if I could only pick one, I think the MTG tube distortion, I like it a lot. I have a lot of fuzzes and other rats and things that can go, uh, wooly and kind of get the same kind of darker sound that this guy gets. But I almost, I don’t know. I like them both a lot.
[00:12:14] Uh, I think this is the one I would put on my board if I could, if I could only choose one. Um, but if you don’t have a rat, I think this is a really unique kind of take on something that’s voiced similarly to it. I don’t want to call it a rat. Uh, but it’s really, really neat. And I gotta say also the switch glitch, which you can’t really see, I’ll just move it around so you can see it really quickly.
[00:12:38] Yo. Hi, I’m a switch glitch. Uh, yeah. I really liked this thing. This is pretty cool. The clicking I had been using my podcast, cohost, Andrew Renards, uh, ABI switcher, but it was passive. So it didn’t light up. So you couldn’t tell which was which, and you can tell with this, which is better, much better. So, yeah.
[00:13:02] Um, Thanks to fender for sending me these two pedals to demo. I hope you have a better understanding of the differences between the two. Uh, if you were wondering, clearly you’re not the only one who was wondering, I was wondering they look the same. They are not, uh, very, very unique compared to each other.
[00:13:20] So thanks for watching. Thanks for understanding. If you would like to buy any of these, please consider using the link in the video description is our refurb affiliate link.
