Hilbish Design Sol Invictus Dual Preamp and Distortion

Welcome to get offset. My name is Emily and I’m here today with the Sol Invictus by Hilbish Designs. Uh, it is based on their beta preamp, which is a rackable unit Mount rack rack, Mount, whatever y’all. Um, But is that in a pedal board format? It is a gigantic is truly gigantic hand for scale. This thing is bigger than my head, but it has a lot of cool features that will make it very worth it to a lot of people.

I think. Including it is a dual channel preamp that can get into fuzz territory. So you can set one nice, like clean, maybe as your breakup type, uh, setting, or you can go full out fuzz or you can run them both in parallel via this here, middle foot switch. Uh, it also has its fair share of out options. Just one input.

You can run channels a and B out separately, or you can have them all out in the same place via the instrument. There’s also a line out for I’m running into pre, um, power amps and a balanced out as well for those long P R S runs. So they, yeah, lots of lots and lots of Sonic grounds to cover today. Uh, let’s talk about the toggle.

A is red B as green. You can turn them both on there. You can turn either on there. So I am playing through my stream or video. I’m going to start on the round B. I might try and experiment with some other amp sounds. Um, namely probably the Vox, because this is I, it’s my understanding. These are kind of based on like sun do lot of the, kind of like low and heavy, really like.

I don’t know that it’s, I, it’s not hard to describe, but it’s just like very much, like you feel it in here. And I dig it though. I don’t play those kinds of, uh, Really dark tones a lot. So I’m, I’m really interested to, to see how this does. All right. So here is my clean sound

and let’s turn on the app. I’m going to start on the channel a and right now I have the gain really low. I’m actually going to turn it to about nine o’clock there.

and of course we have our, a three band E Q here, so we can sweep these lows.

all right. So yes, it is Ganey. It is loud. I have the master on, at one here. Um, the main volume. And then each channel has its own volumes. And I have with the gain all the way up, I have the volume almost all the way down there. And it’s

so. So it’s as loud as you would like ever, I think, want this, want this to be like, you’re going to get your volume. I think this is a very doomy kind of thing, which is, I’m not a doom person, but like I respect it. All right. Um, let’s uh, talk a little bit about let’s. Let’s just click through with the toggle and I’m going to hope that my ears will get blown out.

especially between them. I find to be pretty seamless. It’s pretty, you know, soft. You’re not going to hear like a PA between, between it. Um, I want to do the boat channel thing, and I really like the, these are the same. A and B are all the same. Schematics wise is my understanding. Um, there’s not so like you set them the way you want them, or you can blend them and they’ll run in parallel.

So let’s play around a little bit with that.

like, you can maintain a lot of that articulation and clarity and your notes and still have that Gras right underneath it.

All right. Well, that was just, um, a quickest look at the Sol Invictus by hillbilly designs. Uh, I’ve had this for, for a little bit and, uh, I just, I can’t stop playing it to be honest. It’s it’s. It’s so big. It really is so big. And I, I, haven’t given a lot of thought to like a and B channels and how I would ever use that.

Um, you know, I, I’m a one amp kinda kind of gang at a time, but, you know, dang, this is really cool. I feel like if it’s something that you have been like, Looking for a way to do like actual kind of amp style channel switching in a pillow board format like this, like it’s I have it’s so neat. I just keep saying it’s, it’s neat.

I would love to be able to play this some more for you all. And I think that, um, is, is not going to be my only demo I do with this. Cause I really want to know how the sounds. On a baritone guitar. And right now I’m working on transforming a, uh, a guitar I already have into a baritone. So that’s something I’m going to do really, really soon, but I don’t want to do with this demo.

Um, partially because my, my Eastwood baritone is, uh, is, is a little unreachable well at the moment. But, um, so I’m going to get some more demos up with this guy, uh, ventrally, but like, I totally get wanting to have two, two amp channels. I mean, that’s something that a lot of people like having their dirty channel, they like having it versus their clean channel and being able to switch in between those is something that a lot of amps offer out of the box, but being able to have it in a format like this really.

Increases the ways that you could use this. I mean, you could use it as kind of like a, a dual motto situation. Um, you could, uh, I guess you could do stereo kind of stuff with the, both, if you really wanted to, um, within the same like amp, like if you had a stereo, a capable amp, like I do have that with the Iridium.

So I guess I could do a B kind of. Sounds and, uh, shoot, maybe, maybe I’ll set up to do that right now. Um, welcome back. I there’s a little false end there.
