If you can play barre chords and pluck strings one at a time, you can play the bulk of this song, I promise!

[00:00:00] Emily: Welcome to get offset. My name is Emily. You know, it just brightens my day to see you here. Thank you so much for coming out. I really mean it. Whether it’s your first time here or your like 500. Just thank you. It brightens my day. It truly does. You know, you got a lot of choices. You don’t have to be here, but here you are.
[00:00:20] Well, I’m going to, um, just get to it. I’m going to show you how to play the song from home alone. It’s called somewhere in my memory. That’s the official name of the song. It’s a beautiful song. And I’m going to give you a solo chord, melody arrangement version of it that I’ve been playing for the past couple of years, uh, impresses people.
[00:00:38] If you can play some bar chords, you can play the bulk of the song. The bridge is tricky. If you can’t figure that out, don’t feel bad. Um, just skip it. You know, apparently a wobbly chair is good for your core, very odd for playing guitar. So, um, yeah, let’s start with a C major seventh. So we are. So that’s where we’re starting to see major seventh.
[00:01:06] Um, where are you going to, if you don’t know that court is just like a C major corn, but we are not quite there helpful. Right? So, um, yes, barring the third friend. And have pinky on B string Fest, bread, ring finger, uh, D string fist, Fred’s middle finger, fourth, frat to G string. And, uh, I will, oh, I move over here.
[00:01:44] It’s going to skip over for ya a little bit, so you can see him picking hand. Uh, and then I’m going to have my, yep. So, um, Well, I’m going to do is I’m going to pick the a and the E string pick the a D string. And I want to plug both the G and the B string and 10. Um,
[00:02:18] beautiful. Now I’m going to move up to the position or we’re playing E minor chord
[00:02:28] and I’m going to plug beginning instead of the, uh,
[00:02:37] I’m going to just pluck signal that’s from there. No pinching at the end there.
[00:02:45] So a, B, D G. Now we’re playing F major seventh chord.
[00:02:57] That’s just like the first Potter, but then I go down again to the.
[00:03:05] My next court is going to be very similar, but instead of applying a N E ma minor, um, play an E minor seven. So I was going to remove the pinky, continue to bar across the whole thing. And I’m going to do exactly what I did with the last chord. Just add that final note to the end there. So what I have to date is.
[00:03:42] beautiful. We’re already halfway through the section. I think maybe a quarter next chord is I’m going to bar across the entire third fret. Put my. Uh, I mean, you can play it like this. If you want. I have smaller hands. I’m going to be playing with my pinkie. I’m probably going to be relying on my pinkie more than some of you will.
[00:04:02] That’s a personal choice. Uh, so bar across the entire third fret, uh, and then I will, um, make sure to hit the fifth fret on the a and the G strings. And then, um,
[00:04:23] And then frame pluck the middle four strings for one whole beat, move up bar the entire fifth fret. Minor seventh experience and, uh, make sure I’m hitting the B string six, Fred, I’m going to make sure I get the low string on the fifth fret there, but I want to get with my other fingers, the higher three strings.
[00:04:55] I want to go to the minor seventh again, middle four strings back to the minor seven.
[00:05:06] And this time I’m going to be playing eighth notes instead of whole notes, quarter notes. I mean, so
[00:05:22] I want you to get the three, um, the E. D and G plus, I want to get the B note on the offbeat. So, so far we have, uh,
[00:05:53] I’m going to bar, keep my bar, keep borrowing across the fifth fret there. Uh, put my pinky on the eighth fret of the eighth string ring finger on the seventh fret of the D string. And I’m going to pluck the a and the B string.
[00:06:11] And that’s why the, my plucking pattern there. So going to pinch the a and the B string, then alternate with my thumb and index finger on the D G D respectively. I’m going to move down the fret board bar across the, uh, third Fred pinch, the E string then, uh, I’m I use my pinky for this again, small hands.
[00:06:44] I do a hammer on, on the, um, D string. So you’re essentially ending up in a bad gene cord there
[00:07:05] So all together we have.
[00:07:28] And then we will play through the C minor C major seventh, again, minor. That’s major seven minus seven. This time we’re going to, uh, go back to the F major seventh. We’re going to pinch the a GNB and eighth note fashion. Then we’re go with our, um, middle. Uh, with our thumb ring and middle, and then with my, uh, ring finger, I catch the high E on the upbeat.
[00:08:10] We go down to the D minor seventh. We’ll do the same thing on the seed major for. We do another, a minor chord this time throwing and the seventh for the eighth string. Then we go back to the pattern.
[00:08:40] So that whole section again is.
[00:09:02] Nice. Now, now we’re at that bridge that I said, if you really just CA I recommend trying it, but if you’re really struggling, that’s totally fine. Here’s what it sounds like. Really slow.
[00:09:37] Yeah, so, um, this is the hardest part for me to memorize when I was learning this song. Might be hard for you as well. I don’t know. Maybe it’ll be easier for you. Uh, cause it’s not bark or this, this is not bar chords, my hands welcome this part. I love this part. So, uh, we take the, this, the position I’m telling your fingers to take are actually there.
[00:10:04] They’re going to be pretty essential. Um, so. Please try to follow them and then make your own decisions. So ring finger on the a string, you know, then we have, so the pattern that we’re going to essentially follow is a low string. It’s mostly the a, sometimes it’s the E. And at one point it is the D but, uh, the picking is going to be.
[00:10:37] Uh, low string and then it’s going to be basically a G E G E M w. We’ll get to that. It’s going to start with the GE pretty much every time. So open G Albany bar across the top to at least the top two frets. At least I’m sorry. At least the G the B in each string on the first round. So open, open G
[00:11:25] B
[00:11:29] uh, third Fred S uh, A and Heidi at the same time, and then we’re putting our, uh, middle finger down and there were prayer peak on the second front of the G string and then our pinky down. So our piggy dollar third fret of the B string. So again, this is, I think this is the first part is the hardest also.
[00:12:03] So if you can get past this, I really think you can. Is this the most spaghetti playing? I think you can get past the rest of it.
[00:12:16] Sorry.
[00:12:27] and you ended up with this weird, terrible claw hand up here. It’s sucks. Look at that. Nobody wants that. Nobody wants this. Sorry. Um, and then we moved to thankfully a much easier. To have your hand looking like you now moved. You’re still, you still have the scene out up here. Um, and now you’re barring across the second fret, the top three strings the second front.
[00:12:58] Uh,
[00:13:02] so those are your first three notes.
[00:13:09] Once again, it is low string G and then you’re going to put the middle finger down. I’m sorry. Oh, that’s the, yeah, that’s the ring finger down on the third front.
[00:13:26] Now we’re going to change hand positions again for reach pinky on the fifth, Fred Easter. And now we’re going down to the second fret on the that’s been out on the Asia. And since these are here all together there, we have.
[00:14:13] now we’re going to hit the open note, the open bar across the top three strings. Uh, the fourth Fred
[00:14:25] Does that look familiar? Because before we did. Uh, we had, uh,
[00:14:34] so now we have open. Yeah. It’s. It’s all coming together. So open.
[00:14:52] So the next part, open 4, 4, 7 on the high, and now we’re hitting the a
[00:15:07] and then. So then that’s your open and then what are you doing to do being this time? You’re on the fifth, Fred, and then you’re going up to six. So you’re now you’re following a pattern, which is why I say the first bar is the hardest. And then you go, your new low notice is the D D you gotta hit the six, six friends on the, uh, to get out of this hole, mine or above a section you’re hitting the open D fret on the B string.
[00:15:50] You ready to pull off from eight to five on the high IE. And then you’re going to do this reach from seven on the Hy-Vee to three on the Lowy. You’re going to plug open notes on DG, but you can’t do that. Reach. You can do an
[00:16:20] you know, that that note is the same as that open string. I think it sounds better. It’s worth it to try and offer that. So let’s do that whole absolute mad section again.
[00:17:00] once you get to the pattern part, it’s really not so bad. And then where do you land?
[00:17:23] yep. That’s exactly the same. That part is exactly the same. And then we do something that I wish we did the whole song, which is instead of going from this stretch of a cord, we go to this. So it’s a triangle shape. So we have, uh, 7, 5, 7, 7, like for the exact same picking pattern is, but just down here and then the next court is the same as it ever was.
[00:18:02] Um,
[00:18:12] and now we’re in the closing section. Have you guessed that we’re going to go back up to the F major seventh, you’d be right. And you paid attention at the beginning. So, so we’re just going to, uh, plus. A G a D at the same time, and we’re going to use the meaty part of our finger to slide up from seven days.
[00:18:43] Um, yeah, I love using parts of the body to play guitar odd parts of the hand. I should say,
[00:19:00] not the first time I’ve done that in a song. You can use what you get, you use what you have, and next we’re going to bar across the street. Frat, at least from the M D string, at least at least the D string, the G and the B. And then with the pinky, we’re gonna play the eighth fret of the B string and the ring finger.
[00:19:29] And again, like if that’s, if you can make that or something else swaying and then like, do it, that’s fine. Not telling you what to do, but this is you’re going to pluck the G and the H string is at the Southern frat.
[00:19:45] So you gotta play.
[00:19:51] I was pulling away so you can see it, but
[00:19:59] you got to play that part again.
[00:20:05] And this time you’re going to play, you’re gonna play those two same first notes, but you’re gonna play them with this finger because you’re going to need these two fingers to play the ninth, Fred, um, of the, uh, D and G strings. So those two sections.
[00:20:35] One more time. The last time you’re going to head to this, uh, I believe it’s a C major chord, so that is, uh, eighth fret and decks. Uh, you get the ninth fret on the a D and G string at the eighth. On the B string, they go down to an, a minor chord. Now we’re going to play a D minor seventh chord, but you throw in the pinky on the eighth frat,
[00:21:11] hold that for two beats, the name of the pinkie down one, move the end that X bring finger over one from the. From the D string to the G string. Nice. Now we’re going to play this a little masterpiece of a chord. You’re going to take your index finger. You’re going to borrow the seventh. Uh, you just need to hit those two middle strings, the D and the G uh, get the B and the E on the eighth fret with your, you know, however you can.
[00:21:48] I play it with the pinky and the ring. And you want to meet the eighth string. So I go ahead and just reach over my middle finger there. So that is the entirety of the song. Let’s play that end again. Hopefully I won’t mess it up.
[00:22:27] Nice. I’m so proud of you. You learn how to play the song from home alone. You should be proud of yourself. I hope you are. I’m proud of you.
[00:24:32] Okay. Listen, I know I said that’s like the easier of the Christmas songs I went through this year, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. You still learn a really hard song. So congratulations. And if you skip that middle. That’s what it’s really tricky really is. So, you know, thanks so much again for watching.
[00:24:55] Thanks for listening. Thanks for understanding. Uh, if you feel the need to buy anything, if you, if there’s anything that you’re shopping for, uh, please consider using the affiliate links in the video description.
