Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster Demo & Review

The J Mascis Squier Jazmaster is the first time I realized that Squier guitars were officially cool. In addition to its beyond handsome looks (helloooo, gold anodized aluminum pickguard!), it has a comfortable satin finish neck, full traditional Jazzmaster controls, an upgraded Adjusto-Matic™ bridge, and more.

In short, this guitar sounds and plays great. This was actually purchased by my drummer, who let me do this demo, so shout out to Dan Normal! He’s had it for a few days now and he’s completely in love with it. He’d previously been playing a cheap partscaster tele and I think it was turning him off on guitar somewhat, so it goes to show how having a solid guitar is important for people just learning guitar.

For the value, I think it’s a stellar guitar. I only see a few downsides to it:

  1. Though the Adjusto-Matic™ bridge is better than the vintage traditional, I think a Mastery or something more designed for vibrato use will hold up better.
  2. It’s kind of heavy, but, I mean, it’s a Jazzmaster. It’s not heavy for a Jazzmaster, but it’s heavy for my taste.
  3. I love the FEEL of the satin neck, but I think a tinted satin neck looks a little cheap close up.
  4. It definitely needs a setup out of the box, which is to be expected, honestly.

Hey, I’m Emily from get offset, and this is the Squire J mascis Jazzmaster. Uh, it’s become a pretty famous, pretty popular jazz mass. In the past several years, it’s got kind of the gloss half clause, half mat as a group, let’s call that a matte finish on the neck and dice gold pick guard, which is very handsome, a traditional jazz master controls.

[00:00:26] So it’s got the rhythm circuit, which is neat. A classic jazz master style. I brought over with, I believe just kind of a standard bridge. So it’s cool. It’s a J mascis. It’s an indie dream kind of guitar. This actually is my drummers. Uh, he’s letting me borrow it to do a video. So I need to get that back to him.

[00:00:51] Drummer is Jeffrey’s play guitar too. Sometimes Andrew from the podcast, uh, Plays drums primarily. So let’s dig into the clean sound into a milkman, the amp, the original version with, um, just a little bit of plate reverb.

[00:01:31] it says in the middle position, let’s move to the bridge.

[00:02:02] and then the rhythm circuit, which is not the most popular thing in the world. I’m always a fan of one. My, my main squeeze jazz master doesn’t have one, which kind of bums me out. Uh, it made rewiring it really easy for, for a pickup swap song. Grateful for that, but, uh, it has different pots in it. So it’s different sounds than just the normal neck.

[00:02:41] Volume roller

[00:02:56] we’ve established. It works. Uh, let’s see. It was some dirt from the Halberd. Yeah. That’s by electronic audio experiments.

[00:03:20] Now I’m going to try it with the, uh, Overdrive side of the bookworm effects, diving bells, a dual overdrive, uh, by a builder named Brian out of West Virginia.

[00:03:46] let’s try it with the distortion, half of the diving bell.

[00:05:33] So that handles dirt. Let’s see how it handles the summersault by Caroline.

[00:07:08] I will need to tune after that. So this guitar, um, I do like it as I’ve, as it’s a popular guitar, I think it’s four or $500 new. Um, I don’t, I think it’s a very attractive guitar. I is probably not what I would pick for myself. Um, the end dyes gold, I think is beautiful. Uh, for the pick guard material. I don’t really like the, I don’t know why I don’t like the Amber tenting on the neck, on the back of the neck.

[00:07:43] Um, and the headstock. So a little bit of a look of that. I don’t because I don’t like that Amber color when it’s a matte finish, like it’s glossy. I really did that Amber color, but I like playing the necklace. It just, it feels odd to me. I will also say that out of the box, the action is a little high. Um, I think might need a truss rod adjustment out of the box, which is kind of odd.

[00:08:17] It just seems a little boat in the middle. Um, but the action might be high all over another. I’m looking at it again. Uh, I think the pickup sound fine and they sound like, you know, Jasmine, I said pickups, not everybody’s cup of tea. I think if I brought a system is fine, I think that swapping help the, the bridge would be a good choice and, uh, maybe swapping out the string tree for something with rollers that like.

[00:08:47] Handle the vibrato a little bit better if you use it a lot, I’m really good at work. I would, spectrum is a guitar in this price range. I’m comfortable. Again, it’s a Jazzmaster. It is a little heavy again and sit your ass master. Um, but yeah, I think that my basis, I, I think my drummer is going to be really.

[00:09:10] Stoked to get this back. So I’m going to wrap up this video, please leave a comment like and subscribe if you will. I really appreciate it. It really helps the channel. There’s also going to be an affiliate link to go to reverb.com. If you want to buy this or anything else would really appreciate it. It’s how we keep this channel going.

[00:09:33] Uh, so again, thank you. Thank you so much for watching. Thanks for understanding until next time. I’m Emily. Goodbye.
