The Expression Ramper by Old Blood Noise Endeavors is a utility pedal you can get excited about. It enables you to bounce or ramp between two settings on an expression-enabled pedal, giving you a ton of control with a very small footprint.

[00:00:00] Emily: Cool. Welcome to get all set. My name is Emily and I need a haircut, but that’s not what I’m here to talk to you about today. Today, I’m going to talk about the expression ramper from old blood noise effects. It’s their newest, uh, shockingly affordable, uh, utility pedal. Their utility pedals are all really affordable.
[00:00:23] It’s. Amazing honestly. Um, but this is the newest one just released a little bit ago and I’m going to show you how to use it. Cool. So I’m using the minimum as an example, uh, on the minimum, the expression controls the blend of the reverse. So this is with, uh, no blend
[00:00:48] and let’s kick it up all the way.
[00:00:59] cool. Right. All right. So let’s plug in the expression. Ramper all right. So, uh, for the expression Reaper, let’s first talk about this toggle on the left. It has a little triangle to signify bouncing between, uh, two points. This is what this pallet basically does is you set two points for an expression, parameter, a minimum, and a maximum on the minimum.
[00:01:29] And, uh, you said also. What the speed that, which is, which will bounce between or ramp up. So, uh, you can have a S a sine wave bounce, a square way of bounce, or you can have just going from a to B and then you hit it again. And then it goes from B to a, so a little, a couple of options there for you. So the first thing we do, we go up to a.
[00:01:58] So this is going to be controlled by the expression. And right now I have this dial set to zero.
[00:02:10] Now I’m going to go to the B and set my B position. And just for the sake of really hearing it, I’m going to turn it up all the way.
[00:02:23] Nice. Now I’m going to set the speed. Let’s start with the speed and the middle.
[00:02:35] hit it again. I don’t know if it’s autocorrecting but it is, there is definitely a visual bounce. There it goes from. Purple like kind of a bluish to the, kind of the T teal Aqua Marine kind of color. So
[00:03:23] That might be a slow for me. So let me get that more.
[00:03:37] you can have it going pretty fast.
[00:04:01] let’s try a different.
[00:04:20] Well, it makes it obvious. And that’s why I went from a full, dry to full whatsoever would be. So you can hear the difference the most, uh, when I am taking that means the mix is at zero. I.
[00:04:38] And then when the mix bounces up all the way, uh, it’s completely the what signal. So then you don’t hear my dry signal, my picking at all.
[00:05:00] So, yeah, it was just kind of glitchy and fun. Uh
[00:05:19] so I haven’t hit the button. That’s why it’s not doing anything, but this is going to be set to ramp. So there’ll be ramping from basically the dry side. Up to the completely white signal. So let’s,
[00:06:07] I think that’s really, really fun. I usually do balancing with like a chase bliss pedal. Um, but I’ve been using ramping up. With, uh, the expression ramper and there was basically the same functionality. So then like, as you can see right now, absolutely no dry signal.
[00:06:32] And then I can have it start bleeding more in.
[00:06:56] And what I think is really cool about that is it’s almost like a setting itself up for, for self isolation. Uh that’s I, I think it’s really, really neat cause like your playing almost stops mattering and then it’s just goes fully into, uh, that reverse that really glitchy because I have the reverse set to be after, uh, the reverb and the leg.
[00:07:20] So I can. Speed as well on that, turn it back on
[00:07:34] and then if I have a ramp the other way back down, I can go from the weird glitchy madness back into, uh, the sanity of what I was playing before. I’m just keeping doing.
[00:08:14] It’s pretty cool. Don’t you think change the order so you can change the parameters on this pedal. This will still be mapped correctly. So let’s just, let’s just do some bouncing, going back to the balance.
[00:08:51] it’s a little bit less obvious with, uh, the position changed.
[00:09:06] Can turn the pedal on that might also help
[00:10:17] all right. Cool. So that’s one way to use the minimum. I am now going to do the same thing, but with the visitor. So stay tuned for that. So now I have the, uh, the expression slider with the. Let me just take that out, uh, with the visitor and, uh, for the visitor or the secondary now. So if you don’t remember, the visitor was released in 2020.
[00:10:43] Uh, I did a demo on it, but it is a dual modulation that runs in parallel instead of series of one another converted the end, get you some really, really unique sounds. Uh, I want to set the primary. Two tremolo and the secondary to course. Cause I think it’s going to be really cool to hear that washing coming in and out, uh, for this, uh, secondary controls, both rate and depth, uh, kind of intensity of everything.
[00:11:13] Uh, and then some standard controls. So let’s start with the secondary down all the way so we can hear how that’s going to sound.
[00:11:33] So it was pretty, um, pretty intense. Right. Cool. So let’s go ahead and get that plugged in. It’s going to be pretty noticeable. Let me just adjust some cables the way they want to be adjusted. You remember correctly? We go, we scroll up to the AE. We set that baseline.
[00:11:54] We go to B, we set our maximum, and we just imagine that we’re turning this dial. So that actually go to the max. You go over here
[00:12:05] and then we go to rate, uh, I have it for the sign bouncing right now. So let’s hear how it sounds.
[00:12:26] Hey.
[00:12:38] here a lot, really a lot of stuff going on there. I forgot to put this back in. Whew boy. Get you in my ear. Please get in the air. Great.
[00:12:52] So it sounds pretty woozy. I’m actually going to go back to B and make that less than 10.
[00:12:59] I turned it up all the way, so you could really hear it, but I feel like that might’ve been a little bit too much.
[00:13:48] So when I turn basically the trim a little off by eliminating, eliminating the depth and rate, you can really, really hear, uh, the, the, that chorus go in and out. And I think it’s a very, very nice effect. I’m going to set the, the primary. The chorus and the secondary to tremolo, just to see if we can hear the difference there.
[00:14:16] I think that does. That might actually still, so this may still be set to a, the court.
[00:14:56] Um,
[00:15:01] I like how that sounds, where the rate.
[00:15:40] Let’s do the square.
[00:16:15] So it reminds me of like, uh, gosh, who was it? Was it, um, each X put out that little dual expression pedal. This is gonna essentially be that also, I feel like that’s where the, this really thrives in competition is like the idea that you can have two expressions. Settings, and you can just toggle between them very easily.
[00:16:51] cool. I think that’s really fun. Yeah. Uh, so I, uh, think that is. Quite a few pedals. We’ve already, we’ve already put this through. Um, but please stay tuned. I’m sure I’m going to do a lot more with this pedal. It is a really, really fun thing to kind of play with, uh, get those two settings. I feel excited about a utility pedal because I don’t have it.
[00:17:22] This does not really also does this, especially with such a small footprint. Yeah. Even the DOD many pedals, you’re looking at like slightly bigger than a standard size enclosure to navigate between, uh, different expression parameters. Of course that’s like the point of an expression pedal, but you really just want to like bounce back and forth.
[00:17:43] There isn’t really anything else that does that easily outside of maybe Mitty I’m sure many could do that. Um, I’m sure, obviously every chase bliss puddle can do that. And now you can take that really cool functionality that a lot of people love about their chase bliss pedals and apply it to old blood noise pedals.
[00:18:07] Uh, you could also, I’m pretty sure you could use it with a chase bliss pedal. I don’t see why not like yeah. The moon.
[00:18:17] Yeah. The needle takes an expression pedal, so you can have a one thing. You can do your ramping on here and you’re bouncing on that. And I feel like that would be really, really funny. You can get some really woozy sounds for sure. Well, anyway, uh, check it out at the old windows endeavors website. They’re also on reverb and I’m pretty sure Sweetwater.
[00:18:41] Uh, so if you want to buy from those places and support the channel, uh, it’s always appreciated otherwise, you know, support the people at, at old blood noise. They get, they get a bigger cut when you buy directly through them, obviously, but support your local stores, uh, as well. And all of that fun stuff. Uh, like I’m a subscribed below.
[00:19:03] Thanks for watching. Thanks for understanding until next time. My name is Emily goodbye.
