The Sunlight Dynamic Reverb by Old Blood Noise Endeavors is built around the idea of a dynamic hold. Unlike many reverb pedals, this really plays off of your output, so, depending on your settings, the more you dig in, the longer the decay trail will be. It can even function as a traditional freeze pedal.
It has three unique reverb settings: tape, comb (reverb and delay) and pass (a bandpass filter applied between two reverb paths). I love them all.

[00:00:00] Emily: Well, welcome to get off set. My name is Emily and I’m here today with the sunlight by old blood noise endeavors. It is their newest river pedal is their newest pedal period. As of filming this demo hood in September of 2021, they have sent it to me in exchange for demo. So I checked that box. Don’t yell at me for that.
[00:00:25] Um, this pedal is centered around the idea of a dynamic hold. If you’re familiar with the freeze pedal, a pedal I’ve always wanted, but can never bring myself to buy it. This pedal might scratch that itch and more, it is one of those pedals that is an ambient dream machine and more, uh, it fill, you know, it checks a lot of boxes.
[00:00:50] I think for a lot of players, I think you might be a little bit surprised. By its versatility. Let me tell you a little bit about my signal chain before we get started, because y’all always ask, I’m playing my, her signature Stratocaster. It’s got fender noiseless and coil pickups in it. I like them more than most of you seem to ha
[00:01:13] I’m playing it through my brand new fender, a super reverb from the tone master series, I’m playing it through. Because they cannot find any my microphone clips, whoops. But it has a pretty cool option. I’m playing it on the second direct setting, which emulates an SM 57, which is what I was going to use any way.
[00:01:35] I will do a full demo on that soon. So stay tuned for that and let’s get into it. I’m not going to start with the top two knobs. Uh, those are the rate and depth knobs, those change with every setting you see toggle settings there, there’s the bypass. There’s an alt switch. We’ll talk about that later. It’s pretty frigging cool.
[00:01:57] Uh, there is a mix I’m going to keep it at around 50% for the bulk of the demo, because that is the way that I like it. That is the decay. It’s pretty, you’re pretty familiar with decay on most reverbs. This one works a little bit differently. Um, that guy said this pedal has a dynamic whole, it’s something that you might have to hear a little bit to understand.
[00:02:18] I sure did. But basically, uh, as you hit a note, um, it will hold that note kind of based on your input or your output from your guitar, the input into the. And, uh, the decay will be how long that note gets held. So let’s tell you what let’s, let’s just play it. I’m going to turn the rate in the deck down.
[00:02:41] When I have it on a tape setting first, there are three settings tape is kind of, uh, your, your standard, a flutter and wow. A charming warble setting that a us guitar. And nerds seemed to like so much, um, the middle setting is a combined reverb and delay. Um, it’s like, lets us say, this is for the lay lines are placed after the reverb, uh, emphasis on short delay.
[00:03:10] Create combined filters like a fixed flange. And then after that, there is a band pass filter applied to, to reverb pass where random sample, simple holds functions, sets the cutoff frequency of the band pass. These are things that, um, one might say are certainly words that you kind of have to hear to really get.
[00:03:32] So I’m not going to talk too much, some. Some dude is going to comment. Music starts playing starts at Bubba, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. So I have the input kind of in the middle. I have decay in the middle. I have the mix and then the. I like the input in the middle. I liked it to can the middle, um, input kind of controls how much attack you need to, uh, trigger that decay that, uh, hold at the name of cold.
[00:03:59] So let’s kind of, uh, let’s just have some fun with it. My Pacific Northwest genus
[00:04:22] so you could probably hear that. Not every single note I played was getting held.
[00:04:42] But the more that I really push and dig into those strings because of the way my input settings are. Um, uh, I, if I dig in more, I get that dynamic hold. I really liked my settings the way that they are, but you’re, everyone wants some different. So if you have the input all the way down in the decay, all the way up, uh, then what you’re going to get is more like a freeze function.
[00:05:10] Um, So like the last thing that’s played will just be like an infinite kind of hold. So if I just play, like
[00:05:40] No much, no matter how much I dug in there, it was not going to hold. So that’s why I kind of like in the middle, it has that really nice kind of natural, uh, fall off that I find a really soothing, appealing. I like it. It sounds cool. So that’s, uh, the table, I think is the best for it is kind of a natural lush sort of reverb.
[00:06:06] I haven’t added any of that. Warble that water, water, water. I’m apparently going to Philly Philly now. So, uh, if you’re going to hop by the Wawa, how about you? You picked me up a home.
[00:06:47] and the longer the hardware has been the longer that trail lasts. So I’m really, really feeling, I’m really feeling that the dynamics of that really. So let’s, let’s get some, some rate isn’t depth in there. How about it?
[00:07:45] I think a little bit, it definitely goes a long way.
[00:08:37] all right, let’s just jump right into combined. I’m going to get them both in the middle of. Uh, this says, the rate says the time of all four delays and the depth sets the feedback or resonance for the delay section.
[00:11:38] Still seems to be something even on no decay.
[00:11:58] uh, fades out a lot faster, uh, max to K should just be like an infinite hold. Let’s just.
[00:13:40] neat. Yeah. So that was the comb combined. Uh, the next one is the past. And this, let me just read this because these are certainly words that, um, makes sense after you hear it. I think, uh, pass is a band pass filter applied between two regions. Paths where random sample hold function sets the cutoff frequency of the band passes rate sets the timing of the cutoff, frequent a sample, holding the depth sets the range of the possible of the possible cutoff frequencies.
[00:14:18] If rating is set to zero depth sets, ache, fixed cutoff frequency, this one I thought I would not like. And then ultimately found it to be supremely fun. Let’s have some fun
[00:14:37] so this one’s just feels more subtle and everything’s at zero.
[00:14:46] Um, and that’s because the rates is zero. So if we crank the rate up even just a little bit,
[00:16:14] Make a mistake. It last a while, but it doesn’t last forever because you got the deafness, it D it bows out gracefully. Unlike me,
[00:17:32] Got a little loud. Sorry. All right. So last but not least, I want to talk a little bit about the whole function, the function. I mean, so they all function allows you to kind of set a preset of parameters, um, and you can switch between it. Momentarily or you can do a hold and remember how earlier I was talking about how I always want to freeze.
[00:17:58] Palbo can never commit to it. Well, this can get you there. You can do it. So to get to, so, like I said before the hold to basically get a freeze pedal, you want to max decay. And minimize input. So you want to get that
[00:18:39] Um, and that would do it. So, but you don’t want to bend, don’t want to bend over, like right after you hit a chord. So too, but you can save that setting so that you’re playing this pedal. You can like get the pedal on. You can be playing it. You can, you can make that happen. I think that’s really cool. So what you do is you hit the power and the alt for six seconds.
[00:19:09] Yeah. You wait for that to blink. You set any of these parameters wherever you want them for that amount of time. So I want like mix it 50 all. Yeah. That’s exactly where I want them now. I want my decay all the way with my input all the way down. I’m going to hold these for another six seconds
[00:19:32] and it’s gonna stop blinking. So now I’m going to keep my input and my. The K in the middle, make sure my is on
[00:20:01] I have my freeze pedal and I have my dynamic hold Riverbed. Big, thanks to all blend noise endeavors for making something that I, they didn’t even know that I wanted or needed. Similarly, you can assign any of these functions to, uh, Annie. Um, oh my God. Expression pedal. Yeah. Including their expression.
[00:20:29] Ramper in a similar way, but you would just be holding the bypass down for six seconds with the expression, plugged down, any, any TRS kind of deal. Uh, you set your minimum, you have set your maximum and heel position and toe position that either their instructions in there. Uh, it’s basically similar. It’s very, very similar.
[00:20:51] Uh, so, uh, I just don’t have. Uh, plugged in. I need to go on. So, uh, yeah, I thank you again to all those endeavors for sending me this pedal.
