[00:00:00] Emily: Well, hook him to get us that my name is Emily and I’m here the day from my, uh, rather noisy street side townhouse to talk to you about, uh, how to find the dental channel. That’s right for you. I mean, uh, listen, I’m a demo channel and I feel really glad and honored honestly, that anybody ever chooses to watch my demo channel.

[00:00:25] Uh, I know I’m not everybody’s cup of tea. And that’s fine because not everybody is my cup of tea. I don’t watch every demo channel. I definitely respect almost every demo artist who’s out there. I know exactly how much work it is and how much effort, uh, all these demo channels put into doing what they do is a lot.

[00:00:49] And, uh, almost every demo artists really does deserve, you know, your respect and does not deserve your mean as come. So back off on those friends, please stop trolling. It’s not nice. It’s not nice, but, um, you know, not every demo channel is right for everybody. And that’s, that’s just the facts. As you know, some are more niche niche.

[00:01:14] However you prefer to say that word than others. Um, and some are just going to work better for you than others, because some are just kind of, kind of be more. In tune to your style, your vibe, your personality than others. So I kind of want to like talk a little bit about how to find that demo channel.

[00:01:32] That’s going to be the best for you and, and kind of work the best for like finding the gear that’s going to work for how you play and make music. So yeah, let’s, let’s get to it. And. This video is not sponsored by anybody. So just sponsored by me and my, my brain. So the first thing I kind of want to talk about is, um, I think that you should find somebody that you think that you, you can trust.

[00:02:04] And I think that most demo artists out there are quite trustworthy, so that’s not really going to be a problem. You know, every once in a while, there’s, there’s a bit of a controversial. Uh, I can’t think of any recently, but you know, there, there are people out there who sometimes you’ll find that they do a lot of post-production and they don’t really talk about it.

[00:02:26] And that’s, that’s a bummer. Um, again, haven’t heard anything. Anytime recently about it, but somebody is doing a lot of like major compression in the backend. If they say they’re AB testing cables and they can hear a major difference. And you find out later that it’s actually like a bunch of studio back in magic.

[00:02:47] Um, I mean, it’s not really super duper trustworthy, so, um, that’s something to think about. But that’s very, very exceedingly rare. So it’s not going to be the first point of concern, you know, but you know, if somebody is like, kind of rubbing you the wrong way, maybe you don’t like you maybe have some.

[00:03:13] Quandaries about like some of the gear that they’re promoting or something like that. Maybe that’s maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe if it’s not a good, like ethical, not true you for some reason, uh, maybe pass. That’s going to be a pretty easy one, you know, that’s fair, fine. Cool. Um, But I think that there’s not really a big issue of trustworthiness, um, just from the people with whom I’ve interacted.

[00:03:41] Uh, I’m sure there are some people out there who will like say they’re using some really nice, expensive tube amp, and they’re actually using some sort of DIY situation or I R thing, just because it’s easier. I have, I’m sure that there are people who do that, but. If your ears can’t tell,

[00:04:08] I don’t know what to do about it like that. Uh, yeah. Don’t really know what to do about it. I, I have no proof of that. I have not heard really any major rumblings about it, so I’m sure it happens to the studios all the time too. And your ears can’t tell. So go listen to the radio and tell me like, Tell me, tell me what your kick drums are real and which ones are middy and get back to me on it, because I can’t tell either I’m I think they’re almost all Medi all right.

[00:04:42] The next thing I think that you should look at is which, which demo artists kind of like make him play music that’s similar to yours. If you, if you make surf music, I think you should probably watch a lot of Ryan Burke and 60. So I go home. If you make ambient music, I think, I think you should watch and Cilla Koski and I think you should watch Mark Johnson.

[00:05:03] You like pop rock. I, I think you should. I think you should watch Megan L and everyday guitar demos. If you, if you. Like, if you, if you play the harp, I think you were actually looking for the other Emily H Emily Hopkins, you know? Uh, so I think that like, there’s a lot of genre stuff to consider. Like if you look to gen.

[00:05:30] Then you’re not, you should not be watching me. Like I play some pretty straightforward kind of like rock Americana. I throw some jazz in there. It’s a little eclectic, but like I’m not playing metal. I’m not playing fast and play some country here and there I’m playing like kind of like average S guitar riffs.

[00:05:49] Um, so there’s some indie stuff in there I’ve played with. Like people know, I play, I play the theme song for Pete and Pete, a place hold steady. I play my band Sunday, crush a lot, like indie rock kind of stuff. I played this, I, you know, kind of stuff I grew up listening to and grew up playing. Um, and you should find somebody who does that for you.

[00:06:09] And because you’re going to want to hear people who play the same kind of songs through the gear that they’re demoing, that you would play. You know, if I ever get. Uh, seventh string metal guitar and I’m, I’m not going to probably adjust my playing to like play metal songs through it, even though that’s that kind of guitar.

[00:06:30] You’re probably gonna want to hear how I’m playing, like my kind of music through it. Right. So, I mean, because otherwise it’s just a very odd, uh, it would be sort of a paradigm shift for my entire channel. And though that might be, make sense. And I might throw that in there. It, it would, it would, it would be a little off-putting I think so just find that in every, every channel really does have that kind of a genre because every guitarist, well, most guitars, because there a session players who can play, like whatever, they can play everything and they can do it really, really well.

[00:07:07] Most people who play guitar, they really have that like, That thing that they do, that they’ve really, they really do it really well. And you probably have that thing that you do really, really well, and that you really, really want to hear. You want to hear that OB any sunlight pedal, that fender, super reverb, that new guitar you want to hear how it sounds doing that thing that you do or close to it.

[00:07:35] Um, before we make that purchase. So find someone who does that or close to it and. You know, you’ll probably be a little bit happier. Yeah. And that kinda leads into finding someone who has the same. Backbones gear that, that you have. I, I use a striving Iridium for most of my demos. I know Mark Johnson does the same.

[00:08:02] And uh, and then you have like, Ryan’s silica. Oh gosh. And so the Caskey, uh, you know, uh, I forget what she uses. Um, Brian from demos of the dark, he uses his, his Benson. Uh, obviously not everyone can afford or even get on the waiting list for a Benson. So if you haven’t been sent or something similar to what, uh, that Benson is, uh, you know, that’s a great baseline for whatever he’s feeding into it.

[00:08:28] Um, if you have a Shriver and Iridium, you know what I do. Oh, what I’m playing is a really good baseline for whatever I’m feeding into it. And of course I like to strive and Iridium because it’s a, cause it’s a great baseline of a really. Uh, of a fender fender amp. So, uh, that’s why I liked that. And that’s why I use that.

[00:08:48] But if you’re not playing like a fender style amp, if you’re playing like a Vox style amp, you’re going, I want to try to find a channel where someone’s using a Vox Sally app or Marshall style amp, because that’s going to really affect how you like how these other pedals, especially like three pedals sound through what you’re playing.

[00:09:08] So if I’m playing. Like, I’m a, uh, a Crowder hot cakes clone. Like if I’m demoing the alchemy audio off of waffle, it’s going to sell a lot different when I’m demoing that through, uh, the and Iridium, uh, on the round B setting or the fender tone master super reverb than it would be if I’m demoing it through like the harmony, um, the new harmony amps, like the eight.

[00:09:40] I don’t know, I don’t have those. Uh, they’re like a, you know, an orange amp or a Marshall, Marshall amp or Vox amp, you know, it’s going to sound very, very different and it’s not going to be as helpful for you. So like, if you’re a Vox person who only plays Vox amps, and you’re watching my channel, you’re watching my dirt demos, your project.

[00:10:01] Not, it’s not going to be as helpful for like the features. I walk. I always walk through all the features and I try to be as, you know, educational in that aspect and, you know, not all channels are, and that’s why I’m going to get into them soon so that that’s still might be held. As far as my channel goes.

[00:10:20] So, um, that’s another thing to consider. What do you like to have in your demos is the next thing. Some people just want to kind of know talking, shut the hell up lady. I just want to hear it. The pedal may be some texts on the screen and I just want to hear it. I don’t want to hear your talking. I just wanna hear it.

[00:10:41] And that’s great. I like those demos too. I really do. I like to put on Ansleigh Kowalski’s demos or knobs demos, or, you know, um, took their Mehta demos and I just like to put them on and the hype, those are great. I love that. And, uh, I’ve really like it when there are tracks and those dumbbells like full tracks, like to hear it in the mix.

[00:11:04] Uh, I think it’s really cool. I like, oh God, I love Megan. L’s demos. Like, they’re so good. But, um, the way I like to do demos is the way I like to talk about pedals or show them off to friends. And, uh, it’s also always part of a learning process for me because, um, I like to learn about pedals by like showing them to my husband.

[00:11:27] Oh the other day. I really surprised somebody when I talked about my husband and the Shanell, cause they said, I seemed like the angry L seven lesbian type, which is funny to me because the non-US Donita sparks has a husband.

[00:11:42] And also, I don’t know. What about me exudes angry. I can get assuming I’m a lesbian, but whatever. I talk about my husband a lot.

[00:11:57] L seven. Uh, I love L seven. I also get, I also get thinking I like L seven. Um, but uh, oh my God, I lost my thought. I went on an L seven angry lesbian rant and I lost my thought, oh yeah. I’d like to show my husband. I’d be like, just not does this and this not does that. And so that’s how I like to learn pedals.

[00:12:18] So then I like to teach them that way. I learn best by teaching. And then I like to like show people what they do, because again, like demo means to demonstrate. And I think a big part of demonstration is to teach. So I like to kind of walk through the different things. I like to assume that, you know, maybe the level of understanding of what these different things is, isn’t very high.

[00:12:44] I don’t like to assume that the person watching my demos always has the highest level of understanding of. Technical specs of everything. And, you know, some people can think that might be like, oh, I already know what that is. So like the people who are maybe most technical with things might not like my channel and that’s fine.

[00:13:05] That’s great. But the people who have like maybe a lower technical understanding who are just starting out or are okay with having things like re-explain to them, um, Like they, they did that. And I really appreciate the people who do like my channel for those reasons. Um, and I also understand why somebody would not like that.

[00:13:28] And that’s fine with me. I’m okay with not my channel, not being for everybody. I’m okay with somebody wanting to go to a more technically advanced channel. And I’m glad that those channels exist for those people. I think it’s a beautiful thing that there are that many options for free content for people to consume.

[00:13:44] I think it’s a great thing. Um, and I just wanted to make sure that my channel is accessible to people and that there is content that is accessible to people who. Are more interested in being walked through the sort of, uh, more basics of things. Because I think that we, as people who are really into gear can get into jargon really quickly.

[00:14:04] Um, and I know that when I was starting out getting into pedals and even now sometimes I’ll hear things and I’ll be like, I need to re-look that up because I, I know I’ve heard that before. No, I’ve looked it up. Oh, I got to look that one up again because I’m still constantly learning about different things.

[00:14:22] And sometimes like I looked at, it was looking at the reflector manual for the I’m sorry, the, uh, old blood noise endeavors sunlight manual. And I was like, Hmm, those are the words. Uh, so I just went to relearn it. So those are those. Yeah. There’s a lot of work. That’s a lot of things to say. Uh, you know, w when you’re looking for a demo channel, you want to find someone that you personally think is trustworthy.

[00:14:45] And that’s to say, I think most demo artists are trustworthy, but if you don’t think someone’s trustworthy, just stop watching their channel and just, that’s fine. Just don’t keep watching their videos and telling them you don’t trust them because that’s really, really annoying. And it’s not helping anybody just stop watching their channel.

[00:15:02] Just talk with your feet, get out. It’s fine. Just stop watching. You’re not helping anybody by just commenting on their stuff a bunch. And actually you’re helping them because YouTube doesn’t know the difference between an F voted down, vote a mean comment or a nice comment. So just ignore them. God, just stop.

[00:15:20] Um, you want someone who plays a similar genre as you, ideally you want someone to use a similar gear as you. And, um, you want someone that like, yeah, you like their format, generally speaking, I’ve probably missed one in there. Cause I talked a lot as you like you, you want someone whose vibe that you’d like, and if, and maybe that vibe is like an accurate buy of, of who they are as a person.

[00:15:49] And maybe it’s not let me know in the comments. If I give off an angry I’ll seven lesbian. I had an Oak counter in a video. I don’t know. I don’t know. What’s less angry than an Oak counter. It’s funny to me. All right. Well, thank you for watching. Thank you for understanding, please like comment, subscribe below.

[00:16:11] Let me know what you look for and a YouTube gear demo channel. Um, thanks for watching diaries. Say thanks for watching. Thanks for understanding probably until next time. Uh, my name is Emily good-bye. Rumbling of the car going by spouse.
