[00:00:00] Emily: Welcome to get offset. My name is Emily and that’s really nice today. You look nice every day, but you look especially nice today. I just think someone, someone off the Telia. Well, if you’re here, you probably know. I have, I have a new interface old one died all one day in the middle of the video. If a. If you watched my, um, demonstration of how to play a Christmas time is here on the guitar.

[00:00:34] Uh, you probably wondered why I didn’t just play through the whole song at the beginning. And the truth is I did. Um, but the interface, uh, Thankfully, it worked for the rest of the song, but, uh, I went on, went back to listen through it. It, uh, slow down at the beginning and then it sped up and then it went normal.

[00:00:56] I was like, Hmm, that’s wrong? So, uh, I talked to Sweetwater and they sent me this new PreSonus studio 18 at 10 C. It is the most, uh, impressive. Interface I’ve ever had. It’s a real step up from what I had. Um, I had had a focus right. Scarlet for, for, uh, something. Uh, and so they only had two inputs in the front.

[00:01:27] And a two or four in the back, I forget. Um, but this has four inputs in the front, including two inputs that are Mike instrument or line and to Mike line instrument, uh, Mike line inputs in the front, and then the back has. Um, a host of inputs as well. So let’s uh, oh, there they are. It has a four line in inputs in the back.

[00:01:55] So let’s unbox this, but yeah, this video is sponsored by sweet water. If you want, maybe I should hold the box up straight.

[00:02:06] This video is sponsored by sweet water. Uh, they are your Midwestern source of all things, music gear, and they always have a nice sweet treat for you. So they have tons of great stuff, great prices. You have your own person who will even call you to make sure what you got is working out for you. And, uh, they listen when, um, when I asked them to please stop using a specific shipping service because that shipping service tended to just eat my packages over the fence, you know what they did, they just stopped using that shipping service.

[00:02:38] It was amazing. It’s great. I actually was really surprised, but it worked. Thank you. Uh, so yes, here it is. I’m excited to take this bad boy out of the box. When you get my knife, I have a knife and a little drawer. Everyone always gets excited. When I show off this knife, you can do everything with this knife.

[00:03:03] I cut steak with this knife, not after I cut tape with this knife.

[00:03:11] I feel like I should. Should’ve Ryan more words after that, but I didn’t, this is actually kind of nice. You should see what this process is like on your end. I love a good unboxing process. People always make fun of unboxing videos, but you know what? They’re kind of fun because you get to see that’s Rouse.

[00:03:27] That’s really nice. All right. All right. So then we just have some. Good old fashioned protective things at the top, got some warning safety compliance stuff. We have the interface. That’s actually a lot smaller than I was expecting. So I’m pleased. I’m very pleased by that. I have my pardon, my power. I have my USBC, so I’m not going to use that because I don’t have a Mac and my normal USB, which I will be using.

[00:04:13] And then the rest of my power, I assume. And then anti slide, little feet, which I might use. Manpower just know

[00:04:31] the power. Well, I’ll be, I think I just actually turned off the lights. Maybe I should turn them back on.

[00:04:46] Yeah. I have a remote for my remote for my lighting. Should not have, uh, put that so close. So other things. So shouldn’t be, don’t put things on the remote for your lighting for cells within my power, go out. And then I thought to myself, do I have battery backup power on my computer? Because my other lights run off the computer.

[00:05:08] And I was like, no, I don’t. I feel like I should know that. All right. So let’s make sure this box is what I think it is the rest of my power supply. Yeah. It is. So this is not run on bus power from your computer, which I’m fine with lists. Like I know it makes it less portable technically, but like, this is a, it’s kind of a big boy.

[00:05:29] If I want portability, I’ll like extreme portability. I’ll get something else. But like, I’d rather have something that’s like working. That’s like robust, then I’ll take that for something. Like, if it’s a lot of tracks, dude got an input. I still think it’s probably going to be portable enough. I’m plugging in a laptop.

[00:05:55] If I’m recording the bus to

[00:06:01] silica packet, I dropped the silica packet. All right. Ooh. This is going to be Saturday.

[00:06:13] Um,

[00:06:17] this feels robust. It is definitely feels like aluminum or something. All right. So we have, there it is. There it is. So over here, we have a two in posts for Mike instrument or line two from Mike or line. Uh, I look up the difference every time I looked at it between Mike line instrument. I’m pretty sure instruments for like active pickups and things.

[00:06:48] Uh, normally I just do Mike line. Um, one of the things I love most about this. Unit and why I kind of went with this over others was that, you know, for some, you just kind of have the halo color, that’s like green, yellow, red, but this will actually show you levels of your various inputs and your main. And I really, really, really liked that.

[00:07:12] Um, it, it will tell you like how close you’re getting to actually clipping. So I think that’s really, really nice. Um, so that’s really cool. On that, uh, you can, uh, you got your 40 volt for your Phantom power there that applies to all of these. Um, I wish I wish I could separate those out two by two. I have my mute, uh, a, B I can switch ones two to line or instrument with that button.

[00:07:42] It appears. Um, and then the AB I remember looking this up. When I was researching that, I don’t quite remember what it was back has a lot of stuff happening. Uh, so we have your main out. So that’s where I will be plugging in my, um, my external monitors, um, pointed the right thing there. Um, I you’ll have you have your two headphones?

[00:08:18] The, the one thing that really kind of bothers me is that, um, the headphones are in the back. Uh, it would, it would’ve bothered me more if there were, if there was only one because I switched between big over ears and, um, any ears. So typically like on my old unit, I would have to swap between. The just unplug and plug them in, but this I can leave both plugged in all the time.

[00:08:46] Obviously I’m not actually, I don’t actually have my ears plugged in all the time. I use this, um, separate cable here. And, um, so this is a quarter inch male to an eighth inch female. Uh, so I just leave that plugged in all the time, have that route. I can control the volume as needed. So that actually is going to be totally fine for my flow.

[00:09:10] I’ll just have a little clip underneath my desk here so that I can always have that handy for both of my headphones. Um, yes, uh, has a S P D I F in an out a way that in many in and out, which will be great for this. Pretty excited about that. Um, getting more into, uh, and then power on off. So, uh, yeah, you can register it, which I will be doing.

[00:09:44] I’m getting more into registering my gear. Um, yeah, I’m really excited to be using this. Thank you again, uh, to studio one. I’m so thrilled. This is going to be really easy. I think, to, to set up and tear down, um, it comes with a software. So how about I set this up and we take a little look at the software.

[00:10:07] Cool. Welcome back. Obviously I’ve changed shirts. It’s a different day. One more day when we’re dollar, as they say, whoa. Well, I want to show you a little bit about the, uh, universal control and everything that comes with the PreSonus studio. 18, 10 C. Um, yeah, so let’s just, uh, go on over there and, uh, take a Gander chalet.

[00:10:34] All right. This is my, uh, universal control, the main, the main guy. So there are a few things you can do right now. It’s, uh, obviously looking at the 1810. See, I also have my fader port eight set up there. I can set my sample rate to one of many things right now. I have the 48. That’s what my device is set up to clock source a is internal.

[00:11:05] I think seven different block size. This is what I was using for a street. Uh, input format, output format. And then it’s an interesting loop back feature, which enables you to have computer from your audio going through to either like a streaming thing, uh, like Streamlabs OBS, which is what I use when I do live streams or video capture like this one.

[00:11:31] Um, or I can, that’d be the virtual, uh, I can do the virtual or I could do. One two, which would enable me to put it directly into my doll in my case studio one, or I can just turn it off. Uh, I’m going to have it on mixed one two for now. I’m going to click on my, a studio one. So you can see here, let’s just, uh, see.

[00:11:57] So I have my mic one, that’s all the way up. I’m going to turn it all the way down. Uh, I switched my channels because I was using that virtual one too. So we have all of our channels here and we can scroll all around. We can color code things and I probably wouldn’t have been so confused by this if I had properly color coded those.

[00:12:21] So I’m going to color code my. Uh, these are my MC five and six. Those are actually line inputs in the back. I have my Iridium hooked up to them right now. I have them in stereo part panned, hard, left and hard. Right. Uh, if I had anything hooked up to here, I probably would do the same thing. Um, it’s kinda hard to little bit hard sometimes to get a manual center on these, but if you hold a control and just click, go straight to center, same with these controls.

[00:12:54] Any of these, it just kind of loop around. It’s kind of hard to get directly in the center, just with your mouse or even your scrolly wheel, which is what I’m using right now. But if you hold you click on it, press the control button on your keyboard, or just press the control button on your keyboard and then click on it.

[00:13:16] It goes right into the middle, going to bring that back down. This is my mic input that I’m using right now. Make that orange, and this is what my, uh, amp is hooked up to right now make that blue. So you can color code things. You can set different mixes. Uh, I have not done that. You have other systems settings that you have right there, including you can change the color scheme.

[00:13:42] I don’t like that at all. Um, Meet her decay. That’s if you clip is my understanding, uh, some other things you can check your firmware version, check those drivers settings that we saw earlier. Um, but let’s go back over here. We have this, uh, S P D I F one. I’m not using that. We have our aid ads, and then over here we have the doll and that is the virtual audience.

[00:14:14] So if I, um, go over into, oh, let’s just say I open a YouTube video and a, another app. Let’s actually, we just open some other audio. I don’t open a YouTube video. I don’t want me to take down. So I go over to, um, my data drive. Let’s just play the intro for the podcast.

[00:14:51] Yeah, you can see that. See that’s the audio from the computer actually in stereo, even. So that is how that worked. And I just had that up and. My music there. So that’s pretty, pretty neat. Uh, those are kind of the main things that I’ve been using. This is my main mix I can use. I can change the inputs. One, two from Mike instrument to line.

[00:15:20] Um, the, uh, three and four are just Mike and lions. There’s never an instrument input there. That’s why that’s not there. And yeah, you just have a lot of these. Doll channels that I haven’t fully explored yet. So, um, a lot of settings, lot, a lot, a lot of settings. Um, but yeah, this has been really, really cool to explore.

[00:15:47] I love seeing the meter. Let’s see if I can clip it. Yeah. So that’s the clip. And there it goes. Alright. Well that was just the quickest look at the, uh, the universal control. I’ve really been loving this it’s it’s made my life a lot easier. Um, having, having this, this interface, I’ve already had a much easier time.

[00:16:18] Uh, making certain types of videos with it, especially ones where I have to pull some audio from the internet, those virtual inputs, the look back feature has been super helpful. I’m still trying to figure some things out here and there obviously I’m still pretty new with this. So I hope to do more videos with us where I, you know, do solve a problem, share, share some tips and tricks that I discover.

[00:16:42] Um, but yeah, I hope you enjoyed this walkthrough of the. PreSonus studio, uh, 18, 10, C uh, there’s a lot to discover for sure. But, um, yeah, I’ve I don’t have any complaints at this point. Well, yeah. Um, please, uh, if you are considering shopping for gear, Check out our affiliate links in the video description, especially the Sweetwater link cost you zero extra dollars.
