Spaceman Sputnik III Germanium Fuzz on Guitar and Bass

The Sputnik III is a germanium fuzz with vintage Soviet transistors by Portland, OR’s Spaceman! Its range of tone is truly bananas, and it can essentially do everything from a smooth fuzz to something that’ll make you tear your own hair out.

I truly cannot comprehend how there are so many sounds available in this pedal.

Guitar is Squier Paranormal Series Super-Sonic
Bass is Fender Mustang Player Series Bass
Guitar amp is Strymon Iridium, Round, B
Bass amp is Fender Rumble Studio 40

Spaceman Effects Sputnik III Germanium Fuzz on Guitar and Bass

Welcome to get offset. My name is Emily and I’m here today with the sputnik iii by spaceman effects. It’s quite a handsome pedal. I really love their aesthetic. It’s minimalist. Sleek. Cool. Not loud, not noisy, yada yada yada, and feel super duper robust. It also has these really nice soft switches, which I like.

[00:00:24] And, uh, that jewel indicator, which I think it is really handsome recovery effects has that fender has that. Everybody should just kidding. I just like them. I think they’re great. Let’s get to the controls. We have signal, which is the volume level range, which is the fuzz level. We have calibrate in this toggle and these are filters slash kind of, you can probably think of them as like , uh, guys.

[00:00:51] Um, there, and then we have, uh, I think it says scan. Yeah, it’s a scan. We have scan, which, uh, in tandem with this button creates chaos and havoc and madness. It’s pretty gnarly. Uh, I got my transit lab cable, uh, And sinasoid cables. Uh, the guitar I’m playing is a square paranormal series supersonic with Lawler Imperial pickups, wiring harness by gunshots hiring.

[00:01:26] And I’m going to be using single coils because I love them for the base. I’m using the fender player series, Mustang bass, which are really affordable. Cool options. Check out the demo of that, uh, through the fender rumble. Studio 40, which is a modeling bass amp, and is really actually, you know, better than you would then one might think of modeling bass amp would be it’s really, really, really cool.

[00:01:53] I’m a fan. And without further ado, just kidding, a few late comments. Describe the low. Uh, if you’re ever going to buy this pedal, please that are using our reverb affiliate links, check out the link description, the videos Gibson for that link. We also have links to distro kid. We can save you 7% on your distrokid membership for the first year.

[00:02:15] And it’s only 20 bucks a year anyway, which is I think $30 cheaper than two in core. Which is what I had been using before I switched to district head and that supports us too. So those are two ways to support the outset, sending more money than you would have. We also have a patriarch on patrion.com/get offset, and we have a store at podcast.com/shop.

[00:02:40] We have fun shirts and mugs and stuff. Ah, well, Anyway, enjoy the rest of the video. I hope you’d like this pedal as much as I did.

[00:04:47] if you’re thinking to yourself, Emily, the whole city is an odd choice for a fuzz pedal. I just want to quickly shout out lawless brewing is my friend Teekay’s brewery in Los Angeles, and you should check it out and he’s a big hole, steady fan. So.

[00:06:15] that on its own is a really gnarly fuzz, but just wait till you hear this dress and scan stuff, especially in tandem with, uh, These, these these two guys that I can’t read, cause it’s upside down. Calibrate and the filter, the filter switch. So she’s going to be the best

[00:06:41] So I have to say, I love that when you turn this pedal on, it sounds like what you imagined space is, sounds like before you even touch anything.

[00:07:21] I’m in awe of the number of sounds in this pedal. I’m I’m sorry. I keep stopping it, but it is really like, It puts me in a place

[00:08:33] Oh, my gosh, everything just plays with each other. It’s like, there’s so many sounds. I’m really like having a little bit of like, I’m not going to like that concern that I’m not gonna be able to get through everything.

[00:11:27] I am convinced that there is no limit to the range of this pedal. I’ve played a bunch of fuzzes over the past, like year of me having this channel. And none of them has made me go, Holy shit. Like, like this pedal makes me go. Holy shit. Uh, wow. Like even just like adjusting the volume or just in the fuss of the volume on the volume, on your guitar can completely change the way this pedal interacts with itself.

[00:12:04] It’s the Nana’s. Um, and I don’t, I don’t want you to be afraid of this pedal because before you turn on the drift, like it’s, it’s a, it’s a pretty simple, it’s a pretty simple first pedal for the most part. Like this filter thing is really. The the most like wild thing about it until you hit this, which is completely optional.

[00:12:24] If you just need, like, I’m going to play it on base and I will do a true outro where I give you all my thoughts, but so I’m probably gonna repeat myself a couple times, but like, to be able to hit that when you want to make it go, bananas is so cool. I, you know, uh, I think it’s based, matter of fact, it’s based on yeah, they’re based in Portland.

[00:12:46] So they’re keeping Portland weird. And I respect it. They go spaceman. Ah, this is so fun. Um, hearing on bees it’s super duper phone was based too, as you probably would expect back. Um, yeah, I’ll see the second. What up? I just for 15 minutes on the base without recording at all. And do you want to know how I feel right now?

[00:13:09] But it, it was fun playing before and I’m going to have more fun playing it. Some more. So let’s just start with the beginning.

[00:15:45] are you ready for it again? I’ll uh,

[00:15:53] Sounds like a real like thunderstorm. Are you ready for it to get bonkers?

[00:16:32] That’s what the fuzz all the way down.

[00:16:56] Yeah,

[00:18:45] Nasty

[00:19:21] Yeah. Oh, wow.

[00:19:59] All right. Well, that’s a look at the Sputnik three by space effects is a beast. I mean, even with the volume rolled back at the end there, um, with, with, with the switch engaged via the drift engaged, it was, uh, quite a, yeah, quite aggressive and the. That really, these two really play, I guess, these three things really feed on each other and you can get some it’s like, you can get it, everything from something that’s smooth, like kind of smooth finish and tasteful to something that’s just literally like that.

[00:20:45] I know space doesn’t make noise, but if it did, it would sound like that. Uh, sorry, URI. Um, Recipes. Uh, yeah, I don’t have anything bad to say about this pedal, except that it is like a beast. That one must tame. Like, if you need to tame this pedal, like this is not, this, this is going to be wild, but it’s so cool to have that.

[00:21:10] And especially for it to be momentary. So just for like certain parts and certain songs, you can just go really hard. And make a bunch of noise. I love doing like crazy feedback and then just walking off the stage. And then of course I have to come back on stage and turn off my turn off my hand, but that’s definitely, I really like to do, I am, um, with this pedal, I think it’s really super fun.

[00:21:35] Um, and I would recommend checking it out again. That space made effects. There’s a link in the video description. Again, if you were interested in buying it or anything else on reverb.com, if you shop through that link, it costs you $0, but it does help out this channel. It helps me make these videos. It helps me get tech to hopefully, you know, sound better and, uh, get better cables and like improve my processes.

[00:22:02] So that’s something I really love and appreciate when any, whenever anybody like. Takes the time to use that affiliate link stuff. So that’s enough of me talking that’s enough of me playing. Thanks for watching. Thanks for understanding until next time. My name is Emily goodbye.
