The Arborist is baed on the silicon side of the Giganteum Drive (RIP, sweet giant), with tone for days.
It’s essentially a medium-gain overdrive with a well-rounded but distinct tone with a tone/girth knob and a “fat” switch that I like for their ability to take some of the brittle sound out of my single coils.
- Guitars are Tunatone Teeny Tuna and Fender Player Series Mustang Bass
- Amps are Strymon Iridium, Round, B and Fender Rumble Studio 40
- Cables are Sinasoid and Transit Labs

Hey, I’m Emily from get offset. And I’m here today with the brand new arborist from spruce affects. I’ve been working with spruce effects in Brian for a while. Now he’s one of the earliest supporters of the, the podcast. There’s a podcast. check it out. And the channel. And, uh, so he has been doing something.
[00:00:23] I think it’s extremely interesting lately. Every about two months, he’s releasing a pedal in his new Americana series. And so far, those have been two really, really cool fuzzes that have sold out so quickly. I couldn’t even get one. And then he’s doing something that’s um, I don’t know if it has a name, but it’s like their essentials kind of.
[00:00:47] So one of that is one of those is a rehouse who Gale. I have a demo of the original Gale, which is just one of my favorite fuzz/overdrive pedals ever, um, in a smaller enclosure. And, um, this is the arborist and the arborist has an overdrive and it is so handsome and cute. And I like the black and the gold.
[00:01:12] I check this out. It comes with a little, a sticker of it. I just think that’s cute though. I will say I also love Brian. He has his own little middle finger stickers that he has, that I’m a, I’m a fan of as well. So without further ado, I have my Tunatone teeny tuna, my a sinasoid cable going into my strymon iridium round B settings with the drive to about nine o’clock.
[00:01:43] Uh, in the room also to about nine o’clock. So let’s get some musical
[00:02:03] comfortable.
[00:02:54] in true Brian fashion. It’s not a tone control where it gets brighter. When you turn it counter clockwise, it gets it’s more like a girth. Control. So that’s pretty common for his pedals.
[00:03:38] Let’s crank the drive.
[00:06:12] I think that, uh, having the tone be kind of a girth control really comes in handy. The more of that gain you, you give it a, so I’m really into that. Let’s take it back down.
[00:06:34] and let’s play with this. So this is fat.
[00:09:52] alright, so that is the arborist by spruce effects on guitar. Another really, really great pedal from, from Brian and Katie over there and in California doing their thing. Uh, yeah. Yeah. Dang like this with the Gale. That’s a, that’s a powerful combination. There are standard size pedal enclosures, which is nice.
[00:10:16] Cause the Gail was originally a little, it’s a big boy. Um, I think a lot of really great sounds and that’s just a really nice overdrive. I kind of love it. So. Full disclosure. I did pay money for that. I did not get this in a trade to demo and nor to say nice things about, so it’s always good to say. Nice to be able to say nice things about things when you pay for them, especially.
[00:10:38] Cool. So, um, I don’t know how this is going to sound on bass guitar, but I’m also going to demo this on base. Uh, so stick around for that. Brian has ever told me if it works well with bass. So like this is made for a guitar. Let’s just keep our minds open. All right, cool. I’ll be back in a second. Welcome back.
[00:11:01] I told you it’d be fast. I’m here with my fender player series, Mustang, bass, and guitar pedal that mashes at this first effects, arborist fenders, studio rumble, 40 that’s. That’s not the correct word or those words, but whatever sinus or cable pedal trains, a lot of people. And. Interface, and that is how we do it.
[00:11:23] All right.
[00:13:10] I think it sounds best with the girth kind of rolled up. Let’s try it on the fat channel.
[00:15:02] All right. I think that gives you general idea again, not made for base, but I think that when you turn this fat toggle up, it sounds really good on base. I think I prefer the fat toggle up, um, on bass and guitar. So that’s just me, uh, for guitar, especially, I found that the sweep to be really nice, uh, kind of anywhere everywhere in here, it sounded really good on base.
[00:15:28] I feel like it sounded best kind of in the upper echelon. Both those instruments. I thought sounded better with a little bit of girth tone darkness attitude with that fat up, but Oh yeah. I mean, there’s no, really, but I don’t know why I said that. I just think it’s an overall really, really good pedal.
[00:15:47] Great work from Brian. I think they’re like 170 new, um, I know that they did a very short kind of. By the arborist, get the Gail both for a savings of $40, which, you know, if I didn’t already have a Gail, that’s what I would have done because that’s a great price for two pedals. Uh, you’re supporting a small company, husband, wife, team, uh, good people, good pedals.
[00:16:19] Uh, not much else to say about it. I’m really excited for everything involving their Americana series. I hope that I can pick up one of those puddles. Um, at some point, but they keep selling out before I can. So if you’re interested in those, they’re just gorgeous, super limited edition. And coming like this very WPA style, uh, lunchbox and goodies and stuff, get on their mailing list.
[00:16:44] Uh, cause otherwise you are not gonna be able to get one. I know I can’t get one. It’s insane. It’s six. I want one really badly. Maybe when they do cause they’re going to, so with the Americana series, they’re going to do. All of the series. I think there’s like six maybe, but they’re going to cycle through those and then they’ll go back and remake, um, some, some previous ones, the volcanoes and the arcades, maybe.
[00:17:12] Uh, yeah. So yeah, that’s, that’s all I have to say about the Spruce Effects Arborist. Thanks for watching. Thanks for understanding. Once again, my name is Emily until next time. Goodbye.
