The idea of an offset telecaster isn’t new to the guitar world — brands have been selling partcaster elements of an offset tele for years, and Fender released one in 2016 as part of their Magnificent Seven series.
But this is the first time, to my knowledge, a budget version has become available via Squier.
The Offset Telecaster is the body of a Jazzmaster with the electronics and neck of a Telecaster. Simple, right? The Squier Paranormal Series Offset Telecaster boasts dual Fender-Designed alnico single-coil pickups and a string-through-body bridge design, which adds sustain. It has a C-shaped neck profile, a 25.5″ scale length, and a 1.650″ nut width.
I already love this guitar. I always thought the idea of an offset tele was kind of silly, but now that I’ve played one, I’m in LOVE. I’m surprised to say that I prefer the bridge pickup to the neck, which I’ll probably swap out for a Lollar Royal T. I also plan on adding a B-5 Bigsby to this, so stay tuned for that!

Hey, I’m Emily from get offset. And this is how I dress on stage. No, but really I’m here with the Squire paranormal series offset tele. And, this is actually how I dress on stage. So I’ve been dressed like this since like March 2nd. so I just felt like dressing up for all of you all. All y’all a while I play my brand new offset tele, as you can see, it looks like a Jazzmaster, but it has the pickups and controls of a Telecaster.
[00:00:41] The idea of an offset tele not new. I think, I think back in 2016 for their God, what was the name of that series? Magnificent seven series. They did a, a, a fender offset. Tele came in a bunch of cool colors. I didn’t get one, but my husband said he wanted to tell me, so I got this. And then, and I guess that he feels like the shape is more important, so he doesn’t love it.
[00:01:07] But I do. Yeah. Jokes on him. This, it has a maple neck glossy. I really liked the colors, kind of a natural. Color Naples, maple neck, a vintage style tutors, which is mine, my personal favorite. Just everything about this is classic tele, except for the shape. Even like the Walnut color, I think. Great for a Telecaster, but how does it sound?
[00:01:34] All right. Let’s find out, with a little bit of plate reverb coming at ya.
[00:01:42] I’m going to turn that up.
[00:02:24] turn down that reverb of smudge. Cause that’s quite a lot for, a plate reverb on a country sound that was in the middle of possession.
[00:03:03] Let’s go to the bridge.
[00:03:37] Yeah, so that sounds like a tele, and it also has a feel of a tele with the th there’s just something about a tele it’s like a must be the tension in the strings.
[00:03:54] It’s just not no other, it’s hard really, in my opinion feels like it. I’ve heard guys, mostly guys say that, playing offset telly. It’s like, you gotta fight it a little bit. playing a tele in general, you gotta fight a little bit and I feel that way about this.
[00:04:28] But how’s it handled dirt. I’m good at talking. Alright. Let’s put up the Halbert on it.
[00:04:53] you can blame that on the, the tension. Go turn the reverb down even more. I don’t, I don’t know who I am trying on the reverb. Yeah. So the, I hadn’t mentioned it before. I’m playing directly through a milkman, the amp, the original 50 watt version a was a good of plate Rayburn. and also in playing the Halberd by electronic audio experiments.
[00:05:19]no, I’m going to turn that off. I want to S I’m not now. I’m not done. I’m not done with the Halliburton. I’m going to change pickup positions.
[00:05:55] Now I’m going to move on to the diving bells by bookworm of facts.
[00:06:44] Generally speaking. I think I really prefer the bridge pickup, the next to the neck pickup, which is unusual for me usually, of neck pickup kind of guy, you call musher saying, but you’re not a guy
[00:08:25] That sounds awesome.
[00:08:32] Try some stuff in with the dirt.
[00:08:47] If you saw my video of the Squire supersonic and the paranormal series. I complained about the tuning stability on that one quite a bit. And really this one’s staying in tune a little bit better to, for that, that, that beef string just does not want to stay in tune.
[00:10:05] Or dirt more dirt.
[00:12:12] so that is the Squire paranormal series offset tele it looks like a jazz master sounds and. Plays like a Telecaster, if that’s what they were going for, they succeeded. It feels really good. I really think, Oh God, I can’t believe I’m saying this. I think I like this a little better than the supersonic.
[00:12:36] I believe this retails for three 99. it’s available right now. I know that. and I don’t think I mentioned this before I bought both this and the supersonic with my money. so there’s no. Biases happening. They’re all. If you think I’m just gonna no lie because someone sent me something for free. that’s not how I roll.
[00:12:57] That’s not how I did this. I actually really do genuinely think this is a fantastic little guitar. I mean, it’s, it’s, it’s about jazz master heavy. Telecasters are also heavy. I think this is really beautiful color. And I’m going to do some modifications with this, for sure. I don’t know if I’m doing anything with the soup suck, but I have a big speed.
[00:13:19] A B five, I’m going to Mount on this and I have a Lawler royalty pickup I’m going to swap out and the neck, which I was unsure of, whether I would do that until halfway through filming this video. I don’t love the neck pickup in this. As much as I love the next pickup in a Strat. And that’s what the law of our royalty is.
[00:13:37] Another thing I paid for with my money. and I might, I liked this bridge pickup, but I might see if Curtis Lamberton, can make me, can make me a tele, I forget what his are called and I’m going to do a four way switch thing. So can you keep an eye out for those videos? Check these out when the stores reopen or just, just get one from fender website.
[00:14:01] I think some sorts of being kind of cool with their return policies right now during all this COVID-19 and stuff. But I don’t know, it probably varies. Ask your shop. It’s so weird to buy year without playing it first. I hope this the video helped, next time. Thanks for watching. Thanks for understanding.
