Earthquaker Devices Sea Machine V3 Demo and Review on Guitar and Bass

The Sea Machine by Earthquaker Devices is a chorus that can go from subtle and traditional to modulated, self-oscillating fury.

Depth and rate are pretty standard controls for a chorus, and on the Sea Machine. For all intents and purposes, depth is basically the mix for a chorus pedal.

Shape molds from a standard triangle to the left to square wave to the right.

Animate ads modulation / pitch-shifting. , Intensity controls the modulation in the mix

Dimension ads everything from slap-back to reverb ambiance, to self-oscillating echo.

Guitar is Squier Paranormal Series Offset Telecaster with a Lollar Royal T in the neck.
Bass is Fender Player Series Mustang Bass.
Guitar amp is Strymon Iridium, Round, B.
Bass amp is Fender Rumble Studio 40.

Earthquaker Devices Sea Machine Demo and Review on Guitar and Bass

Hey, my name’s Emily and you’re watching get offset. And today I have the sea machine chorus from Earthquaker devices. Uh, I’m a former Ohioan. Well, and so that gives me a little bit of a bias probably toward Earthquaker that. And I think they’re a wonderfully run company from what I can tell. Um, and they make really great pedals.

[00:00:27] So let’s look at the controls and, uh, we’ll start down here rates, which you can see that little light going, controls the speed of the course from basically that to real, so slow. That’s probably really nice, um, shape. So over here on the counter-clockwise AKA to the left, um, we have more of a triangle shape and yeah, and then you move it this way for a counter clock.

[00:01:04] You have the clockwise AKA to the right, for more of a square wave sound. This is the depth pretty standard. And of course the depth of the chorus and animate not to be confused, not to confuse it with depth, this controls like the, the pitch shifting modulation, uh, over here to the left, it’s a more like traditional chorus, all the way to the right.

[00:01:32] It’s wild, crazy beans, all that kind of stuff. Dimension is kind of like adding. Anything from a subtle slap back to washy reverb, to like crazy echo, uh, it’s a magical, magical knob, and then we have intensity and that’s basically the mix. So without further ado, I’m going to cover this on gets heart and base.

[00:02:00] I’m going to use my paranormal series offset Telecaster. Probably live in the middle position. Yeah. As a Lollar, Royal T, neck pickup, and the stock bridge. And I’m playing that to the strive and Iridium around be setting a no room reverb gain at about nine o’clock. So pretty clean sound there. And then I’m going to run through my fender Mustang player series basb and to the, uh, studio rumble 40.

[00:02:38] Yeah, amplifier. Great. Enjoy, please come and subscribe, et cetera. See in a second.

[00:05:17] I’m going to keep the depth up for a man. I will put that back into like, Normal territory soon, but I’m going to, uh, sweep the shape. You can hear that. And I think it’s probably the same to hear when the death is up, you know,

[00:06:02] It’s cool. How that little led changes. So show you kind of like where both with the rate is and vaguely what the shape is.

[00:07:21] Alice look at dimension

[00:07:38] so again,

[00:09:35] it’s not uncommon for there to audibly be cars driving by while I’m doing demos, but that’s the first time that car sound has come from a place.

[00:09:48] Mm.

[00:10:23] I really like that. That’s nice to have.

[00:10:29] All right, last but not least ambiance.

[00:11:19] So as modulation let’s turn up, let let’s, let’s just play around for a

[00:11:49] So this is a recommended setting called haunting slow modulations.

[00:12:29] aptly named. And the other recommended setting is called a sequential routes in forests. It’s a fun name.

[00:13:17] square way. Of course is, are funny. That’s all I can say about them.

[00:13:26] And also that that’s being that high. It’s pretty funny.

[00:14:08] awesome. Awesome. Yeah. All right. I’m going to plug in the base and see how that sounds. That’ll be fun. Alright. See ya.

[00:14:34] Chorus on base underrated. Appropriately right.

[00:18:50] they’re that? They’re that they’re Oh, such depth, such shape.

[00:20:25] Well, that’s the C machine and, uh, I might have a new favorite chorus. Um, wow. I think that just having this dimensions feature is so, so I, it’s a great little noisemaker and I mean, it’s everything you would want in a traditional chorus. With some extra weird stuff thrown and, uh, being able to modulate your chorus.

[00:20:52] That’s that’s nice. I, I, I prefer, I tend to, you know, on guitar, like to prefer a more tasteful chorus. So just maybe a little bit of modulation that’s about their rate in the middle, uh, triangle triangle waves. Um, and probably keep the sky around there. Ish. So just that, that seemed to be like, kind of like my, my speed on guitar on bass.

[00:21:19] Like again, not really a big assist, but I liked the way it sounded on bass. I generally like chorus on bass. I think it’s extremely underrated. Um, and that more people should do it. And, uh, yeah, I got, I have nothing bad to say, Hey, about this pedal. It has like really nice, soft switching. I love the led there.

[00:21:41] I think it goes, it goes far enough. I don’t feel myself wanting more from it. Um, so yeah, just another, another great device by, by Earthquaker devices and, uh, yeah, I’m a fan.
